@DesolatedMrBond Highly entertaining Bond movie with a great villain and cracking climax. The plot is a bit of a rehash of "Goldfinger" including the scene where Zorin briefs his backers about his diabolical plan ("anyone else want to drop out?")

Sunday afternoon James Bond time. #NowWatching A View to a Kill (1985) "Alive and well, I see. And still bungling in the dark." "Well, then, why don't you enlighten me, Zorin." "You're outta your depth. And you Miss Sutton, you should have accepted my, more than generous offer."

@internetuserf12 Nobody was "abandoned." Nations spent billions on testing, financial support for those effected by lockdowns, and on developing vaccines. The vulnerable were also given priority in vaccine rollouts.

Collectively abandoning vulnerable people during a pandemic is one of the fastest ways to manufacture consent for the disposability of entire populations. Failing to see that connection is part of the problem.

I teach, shop, & socialize in an N95 & have since the start of the pandemic. I’ve been sick once in the past 7 years. Never tested positive for covid. I have legitimately forgotten what it feels to be sick w cold/flu/worse. Masks are cheap & disposable. Your life isn’t. 😷
Steph Sits (formerly Posting Things That Matter)@SitsSteph

I haven't had covid yet in year seven of the pandemic largely thanks to simple daily masking. (I wonder how many novids there are these days.) If you stopped masking, it's always a good time to start again. Community support feels good; so does never being sick. Who's with me?

@CraigMurrayOrg I've read several claims like this without any actual evidence. The claim that Bentley sales are soaring in Ukraine, for example, has been comprehensively disproved. Nor has anyone actually identified these mansions that Zelensky is supposed to have bought.

@RodneyMarshall1 Agree "Duel in Venice" was the best episode. Good story, strong villain, decent fight at the end. Due to the crackdown on violence at the time, many of the fight scenes looked unconvincing.

Ian Ogilvy: "It was producer Bob Baker's wife actually, that got me the part [Simon Templar]. She was watching me on television - it might have been Upstairs, Downstairs - and she said, 'Come and have a look at this chap, wouldn't he make a good Saint?' And Bob agreed." 1/

@dizzydizzydazed "Disabled people" aren't all alike. I'm disabled and perfectly happy to attend events where masks aren't worn. And why the insistence that events are alcohol-free? Some disabled people like to drink alcohol!

@maolesen As a society, we spent countless billions on developing vaccines, test and trace systems and compensating people and businesses for the effects of lockdowns. We couldn't do this forever and, fortunately, thanks to the vaccine roll-out, were able to lift restrictions.

@DerbyChrisW The best way to avoid the war would have been for Russia not to carry out its illegal invasion. As for NATO's expansion, that came about because individual sovereign states chose freely to join NATO.

More Labour Party hypocrisy. This war could've been avoided by #Ukraine becoming a neutral country and NATO ending its expansionism. But Labour is doing everything it can to prolong NATO's proxy war in Ukraine and is facilitating Israel to commit genocide. Labour is a disgrace.
The Labour Party@UKLabour

Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine has killed thousands of civilians. He’s threatened the use of nuclear weapons. He’s attempting to erase Ukrainian identity and culture. And he’s forcibly deported children. Zack Polanski should be ashamed of this comment.

Zack Polanski repeats the Russophobic Western imperialist nonsense that Putin is a threat Britain. More of the same of the same imperialist fear-mongering/ warmongering as with all the other mainstream parties. When are people going to wake up to Polanski and the Greens?!
Zack Polanski@ZackPolanski

I will take no lectures on Putin from these Labour hypocrites. I said Putin and Trump are both serious threats to Britain. Correct. Starmer filled the top of his government, Mandelson and Tim Allan, people who made a fortune sucking up to Putin.

@EwanMacKenna I don't want my country's energy supplies to be at the mercy of a brutal, authoritarian dictator like Putin. Your "whataboutery" arguments don't change the fact that Russia launched an illegal invasion of its neighbour, for which it has been rightly santioned by the EU.

Every EU citizen would see prices fall endlessly tomorrow if they pressured their leaders to do deals with Russia. Instead their tax has gone to media to brainwash them, to the point they are cheering more sanctions with Russia, as they can't afford to get by. It's absurd.

@battleforeurope Fortunately, the war can be ended very quickly by Putin calling off the "Special Military Operation" that he began, and withdrawing his forces from the territory he illegally invaded.

A good day for Europe? Saddling 450 million EU citizens with another €90B in debt - without their consent - is reckless governance. Europeans, already squeezed by inflation, stagnating wages, and rising costs, will once again be forced to carry the burden of others’ debt while their own societies are neglected. Enough of the self-congratulatory rhetoric. Start delivering to your own citizens instead of lecturing the world.

In Nova Scotia we dropped mand masking in Feb ‘22 & at that time when polled, 70% of people said they would be willing to mask again if needed. It was needed. Dr Strang said he’d maybe bring back masking “if needed”. They lied. It’s still needed #MaskUp

Been saying this since 2021. I live in an area that dropped masking within MONTHS of onset of pandemic & was generally hostile to COVID, yet I’ve never so much as received a dirty look when masking bc I’ve had always colorful masks or put some charms/chain when I switched to Zimi

@ScottMcCreaWest DAF has a great soundtrack, some memorably bizarre moments (the cremation, for example) and a great lift fight. What lets it down is that there is no real sense that Bond hates Blofeld, the two exchange quips almost like old pals even though Blofeld was the man who killed Tracy.

For those who think Sean Connery is always great as 007, re-watch Diamonds Are Forever. It is a terrible sendoff to his tenure; bad editing, incomprehensible plot and Connery looking like your old Uncle Vern trying to be cool in Las Vegas. Un-Bondian; Charles Gray steals it.

@ScottMcCreaWest It's a bad film, but Connery is still very enjoyable in it -- unlike the previous film, which was excellent but Lazenby was not. Plus DAF has the oddest scene of the entire franchise, where Connery is pretending to make out with himself before his fight with Peter Franks.

First broadcast on this day in 1975, the premise episode of dystopian Survivors is outstanding. The entire first run of the series is powerful material, but Terry Nation's world-building here is pitch-perfect, as is Seymour's acting. (Perhaps it should read world-destroying.)

Masks work against C0VlD, flu, measles, tuberculosis, RSV, and any other illness that spreads via the respiratory system. Masks work at schools, workplaces, airports, airplanes, trains, subways, and healthcare facilities. Why get sick when you don’t have to?
