Okay I just got home from the theatres! It’s a lot better than I thought it was going to be, though I entered with low expectations The cinematography, action, effects, and the story was great. I’d give it a 7.5/10. Definitely not anywhere close to a flop (in my opinion) However, some of the early critiques are absolutely still valid and dragged it down unnecessarily: 1. The language definitely ripped me out of the immersion. The movie would have been soo much more immersive if they used historical sounding dialog 😩 2. Casting choices still bothered me personally. What I mean by that is, John Bernthal plays John Bernthal, Zendaya plays Zendaya, and Tom Holland plays Tom Holland 😂. Other actors though like Patterson and Hathaway were great and seemed to fit the roles well 3. Going off on point 2, Matt Daemon is a top tier actor but felt really oddly suited for this role as the main protagonist. He doesn’t give off this “master war general” vibe at all. He’s too soft looking — and I say that with all respect. I feel like someone more gritty would have been much better 4. Race swaps still odd. Turned out to be a lot less of a deal than I thought, but having so much diversity on what is supposed to be a story set in the late Bronze Age is still immersion breaking Again all that being said, still a great movie — but nowhere close to his best. Not a big deal, as not everything he puts out has to be a 10/10 Let me know your thoughts when you see it!

Absolutely shocked to see that the new movie from arguably the greatest director of my lifetime has a 98% review score...despite activated social media influencers doing their best these last couple months to convince me that it's garbage. rottentomatoes.com/m/the_odyssey_…

@jeffrey_way Likewise for sure! I'll bookmark this and reply back late tomorrow after I see it 👏 Also to be clear I'm no Christopher Nolan hater or anything -- Interstellar is probably in my top 3 movies of all time, and Inception in my top 10. Total masterpieces

Haha that’s totally fair — but I mean what I see on the trailers like everyone else Odd race swaps, strange casting choices (Travis Scott lol), bizarre language not fitting the tone or era of the story, weird decision on the version of story to base it on, etc I’m not saying that the movie is bad, I’m saying I understand why people are dismissing it early. The trailers just aren’t good imo (and the YouTube dislike ratio proves that at the very least)

@stevebauman Valid critiques by people who haven’t seen the movie?? If only Nolan had a track record of making wildly good and thoughtful movies…

Yea that's totally fair -- to your point, even validation rules avoid Eloquent. This probably wouldn't survive the PR haha

🐘 What if PHP had first-class support for HTML markup in it, just like JSX? I've written it up as an RFC (with working implementation) and am excited to see where the discussion leads! wiki.php.net/rfc/native_mar…

Fixed a bug in PHP. When using clone-with, `readonly` properties that were not explicitly passed in the clone operation could be re-assigned after cloning. No more.

@mattkingshott Yea basically leveraging model auto-discovery to make model retrieval from requests/form data more convenient Though to be fair the same could be said for any of the existing convenience methods like `$request->integer(...)`, `$request->enum(...)`, etc.
