Did Aaron Rai prove the genius “Data Golf Strategists” wrong at Aronimink? Every pundit and player said this would be a “bomb and gouge” tournament. That there was no strategy. Rai swings it just 114 mph. He played for fairways, even hitting 3 wood on some big holes. The course rewarded him. He was able to hit greens at a high rate without the punishment of the rough. While all the bombers like Rahm and Rory were struggling to get under par from the rough, Rai was going low. Maybe the data isn’t everything? Video: @trackman

I can’t say I’m surprised by this. Used to love the IPL, haven’t watched a full game this year. The over saturation of T20 cricket is becoming a problem, and the lack of contest between bat and ball due to rule changes is a bigger issue than I think people admit

In an era where the Masters and PGA Championship didn’t exist Harry Vardon won 6 Opens and 1 US Open (and he only played in two US Opens during his prime and won one and came in second to another UK player in the second). Had he played in the US Open every year during his prime, he might have won it ten times. He came to America on a 1900 tour and played over 100 matches and lost 2 (to the same golfer). He also was a major catalyst to the American Golf Boom which inspired Ouimet, Jones and Sarazen.
