@facsimileglib in truth everyone’s story stops in the same place. most writers ignore this. McCarthy does not

if you don’t like stories where the main character dies at the end then maybe you should reconsider life
Glib Facsimile@facsimileglib

@bumbadum14 The missing piece is that Cormac basically writes noir-style where everyone is doomed. Most people want some kind of upside in their stories.

I read the first hundred pages of The Road last year, and read the first hundred pages of Blood Meridian this year, and in both instances, gave up, because the books never clicked. Lyrical writing, but the characters are reduced to way down Maslow's hierarchy, and the tone is so relentlessly bleak, with almost no humanity breaking through, it was difficult to feel anything besides the flint clicking against the cold steel in the overwhelming darkness. I know many of you love it, but to me, it's overwrought, overstylized, and overhyped.

About to start Blood Meridian for the first time. Give me all your best advice.

I don’t understand how anyone could hear about salvia trip reports like “I spent 5 years in the bug dimension” or “I was a sentient inanimate hose in my back yard for 20 years” and still be like “well maybe I’ll just try it once…”

@notcomplex_ @notcomplex My son is on the right side of this graph. Trying to influence school outcomes to be better than my own (I was misdiagnosed as on the left and bounced between remedial and gifted programs) Got a link to source for the graph data?

In the classroom, IQ is correlated with disruptiveness, and boys are more disruptive than girls; so, high-IQ boys are about as disruptive as average girls.

@keysmashbandit It’s brutal. Most people I know still stubbornly defending our healthcare system and they don’t even know that tons of nations they seninadmire have mixed public private systems. It’s a sad state of affairs up here

animal products contain all the nutrition you need btw you: an animal with needs them: also animals, with the same needs, and if not malnourished full of the same stuff you need very straightforward logic here. dont believe the fda. just eat well-fed animals and animal products

@kittypurrzog If it’s a cedar tree then it could have been a person. Cedar bark can be peeled off from the ground to very high up in the tree. West coast indigenous used it for fiber and rope and clothing

@MiTiBennett Encode the history of the environment but don’t specialize further than you can predict. Our ravenous curiosity serves to expand the encoded horizon so we can strongly specialize without closing off future branches of the probability tree. We specialize as generalists thusly
