VCU wins a game in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016. Rams erase a 19-point deficit to stun North Carolina. A heartbreaking end to a heartbreaking last few weeks for the Tar Heels. This is the Dark Side of March.

Andrew Rogers AKA The Silversunbeam
Hey fam, as a little PSA I want to share something personal with y'all. Last week Mrs. Sunbeam went in for a check up with her PCP. Pretty much a normal check up until Mrs. S mentioned a problem that she’d been having, something that didn’t feel overly troubling at the time. She’d been bruising quite easily (like a feather touch would leave a mark) and she’d been fatigued a lot. TLDR, after having a full blood panel run we got a call, first from the lab and then from the doctor. Her platelet count was 4 (as in 4,000 per micro liter). Normal range for an adult human should be somewhere between 150 and 450. After a little consideration we were told to get to the ER as quickly as possible. The reason being is that with a count less than about 20 the potential for a stroke is incredibly high (not to mention possible internal bleeding). For those who may be unaware, blood platelets are one of the body’s major self-repair tools. An important part of the clotting process, platelets act almost like tire slime to plug small leaks in the circulatory system. For larger leaks (cuts, ruptures, etc.) platelets begin the clotting process, aided by fibrin to plug those larger wounds. A low platelet count means that there is less repair work that can be done and small leaks can get larger and can prove fatal if not caught in time. Long story short, Mrs. S spent two nights in the hospital while they gave her 3 units of platelets and put her on a massive IV dose of steroids while they did more testing to figure out what we were dealing with. I’m happy to say that the therapy worked wonders and she was released with a count of 27. Still low, but that increase meant that her body wasn’t destroying new platelets. After 2 more days with high steroid doses her count (as of yesterday’s follow up) is up to 280, well above the lower end of the normal range. Whew! What caused this auto-immune response? We’re still not 100% sure. Acute ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenia) has several potential causes ranging from a simple viral infection (flu, COVID, chikungunya, etc.) to leukemia and lupus. Luckily, blood marrow disorders like leukemia and other cancers were ruled out pretty early. Tests for lupus came back negative. The doctor suspects it was a response to a viral infection (we both had a bad case of the flu right after Christmas). TLDR, Listen to what your body is telling you and make sure you have your doctor check you out (even if you feel it’s nothing). Small things can be indicators for life threatening issues that need to be treated.

@HVNYrefugee So are we also allowed to add embellishments to the tree we think is better? Yours has Spanish moss, it's only fair.

@lost_in_tech @Burnstation3D I dislike people who hate on Creality because they couldn’t properly assemble an Ender 3 pro in 2018 & assume that all subsequent machines are as bad. 🤣

Ya know, if you used one (1) printer brand and you like it, that's great. But that doesn't mean you know anything about all the other printers and that doesn't mean you can act like an ass about them. You're what we call "uninformed".

😡 Philadelphia’s attorney just said the quiet part out loud. During PA Supreme Court arguments, Philadelphia attorney Jennifer MacNaughton admitted that banning 3-D printers themselves would be acceptable under the city’s legal theory. Think about that. Philadelphia doesn’t just want to ban 3-D printed firearms — their argument suggests the government could ban the machines used to make them. 🎥 Watch this clip from GOA’s case challenging Philadelphia’s homemade firearm ban. @PhiladelphiaGov
