YOU. MISSED. THE. WHOLE. POINT. Just because something CAN be 3D printed doesn’t mean you’ve addressed the problem @smartereveryday was talking about… Destin wasn’t talking about making a knob. He was talking about rebuilding America’s industrial sovereignty. That’s the deeper message almost no one is discussing… 3D printing a part doesn’t solve systematic industrial de-skilling, intellectual offshoring, or the erosion of tacit manufacturing knowledge. In many ways, it can accelerate it. I love 3D printing. My company exists because of it. But buying imported printers to produce products using a manufacturing technology stack (slicer, firmware, hardware) largely designed and built somewhere else isn’t a strategy for rebuilding American manufacturing. It’s an increase in productive capacity, not industrial sovereignty. Owning the factory is valuable. Owning the knowledge to build and expand the factory and having the people to do it is transformational. Real manufacturing capability is designing the mold. Building the tooling. Designing the machines. Developing the processes. Training the people. Institutionalizing that knowledge. Then passing it to the next generation. That’s how you build an industrial base that can’t be outsourced overnight. America wasn’t an industrial powerhouse because we just made products here. We became one because we knew how to build the machines that built the products. A country can have enormous productive capacity while owning very little of the technology that enables it. If your manufacturing technology stack (from the printers to the motion controllers, electronics, firmware, software, and supply chain) is controlled somewhere else, you’ve built capacity, not sovereignty. A single switch can still bring you to your knees. So again, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how many knobs you CAN make. You’ve simply recreated the same dependency under a different banner. Keep 3D printing. I certainly will. Just don’t confuse it with the solution to rebuilding American manufacturing.

This will be Thor's last day. Cancer won. I got up this morning to let him out. Lots of blood. His abdomen wall burst. Sent the vet pics, nothing can be done, too much damage. She said if he's not in pain, let him go on his on. He's not in pain, so I will let him go at home.

Thank you sir. I didn’t know how well received. This might be to be honest as we shot lots of different things while we were there but it seemed to me that really what’s behind the company is so important these days and the engine engineering lead focus for me personally was such an inspiring.
