It is now obvious that for decades America’s leadership has sought a world where American workers are exclusively members of a knowledge economy and sit at the top of the world’s economic pyramid. Our leaders' goal was to ensure that all Americans worked at a keyboard, with doughy, un-calloused, plump hands and a foreign-made luxury EV charging in the garage. To accomplish this, the manufacture of the tangible goods necessary for civilization would be off-shored to fascistic nations with slave labor wages, and for the internal services we needed that required dirt under the fingernails, we would import illegal aliens at slave labor wages. Let’s call this “Temu World.” Temu World worked great if your name was Pierce or Agatha, and after you left prep school and got your degree at Brown, you went on and worked for a taxpayer-funded NGO called “Queer Internationale.” Temu World was made for you. But if your name was Joe or Sally and you graduated from J.D. Vance’s high school, Temu World was not so great. Yes, you could buy cheap Nikes. But all the manufacturing jobs had fled your communities, the keyboard jobs never came, and everybody you know is getting public assistance and is stupefied by fentanyl, booze or opioids. Temu World is a losing proposition for such Americans, notwithstanding the failed promises of the intelligentsia that one day Appalachians could also sit on their fat butts working for “Queer Internationale.” What is worse is that Pierce and Agatha and their rich policy-making parents never realized that if a foreign nation controls all of the material goods upon which civilization depends, your Temu World civilization in America is now utterly dependent on the goodwill of those fascistic foreign powers, and the basic structure of a civilized nation can come crashing down as soon as one of those foreign powers decides to cut off such essentials as steel or microchips. Even worse? Aircraft carriers and tanks need steel and microchips, and all of a sudden you can’t defend yourself. Temu World was a vision where all Americans could be the fat, bloated, helpless human adults on the spaceship in WALL-E, but Temu World forgot that there was no servant class of robots to provide for that luxury, and instead hungry international adversaries had achieved dominance over us by making us dependent upon them for our basic needs. Trump is about destroying Temu World. Agatha and Pierce can still work at a keyboard, but it will need to be a job that serves an actual purpose. Meanwhile, Joe and Sally are off the fentanyl and are earning a good hourly wage making steel, building home appliances or crafting high-quality shoes and being able to afford a decent house for their kids. And defense? We’re once again the Arsenal of Democracy. That’s Trump World. Not Temu World.
