@ChrisDJackson this is not wasteful, this is building skills & giving the pilots currency hours. pilots must fly so many hours every so often to maintain their flight status. Instead of having them just fly circles where no one can see, they do that & generate good PR for recruiting needs.

I’ve looked into this very minimally, so I’m genuinely asking. Why are people opposing data centers so hard? My gut feeling is it’s hippies opposing nuclear power 2.0, but I’m willing to be convinced otherwise.

They learned that the current design works, that after hot stage separation & eventual reentry, starship motors reignite upon command, are controllable, & the software for the control surfaces works.

They didn't want to risk destroying a landing ship/pad to recover a vehicle that was untested. They will probably try a recovery the next time because it performed as hoped.
