I feel so sorry for any elderly person who struggles with online admin / isn’t online and doesn’t have a support network to help with online admin. Almost everything is online or automated now. And for those who aren’t online (in particular the elderly), they are marginalised.

Subsidising meals in parliament for MPs and Peers costs the UK taxpayer up to £7 million a year. Despite the public facing huge food price inflation, we pay MPs & Peers to indulge on cheap fine dining. It’s time to remove taxpayer funded subsidies on parliamentary food.

@JamesMelville we have to communicate with so many online services for my 91 year old FinL.. Sky..Banks..Phone..Parking..even the GP! It's a long time since 1982 and the so called Intnl Year of the Disabled and what it stood for . in 2025 we even discrimate by age!

Everyone should read this and really think through the devastating impact of the digitalisation of everything on the elderly. Digital ID risks ostracising and discriminating against them even further. ⬇️

I have an elderly friend who is in her 80s. She lives in Cornwall. Mary is very switched on but she struggles with new technology a bit - especially parking apps. All she wants to do is put her car in a space for a couple of hours and pay. She does not want to sign up for a new app. She does not want to verify her device. She does not want to save her credit card information. She does not want to figure out why the app thinks she is in Devon and cannot geolocate the car park she is standing in. She wants to take a few coins and put them in a machine and do her shopping/meet her friends. Now, she finds excuses not to meet friends or shop because she is so worried about the parking situation. It is a disgrace that parking has become so discriminatory and this is just the start. When Digital ID is introduced, her whole world will feel like this.

Let’s give £500million this year alone to wind power companies not to generate power from their wind turbines. And let’s spend £30billion of taxpayers’ money on carbon capture machines but put pensioners, farmers and the disabled into financial peril by claiming there’s a £22bn black hole. Lol.”
