@JamesMelville For all his faults, Rishi DID warn us about some of it! But, because of his track record, nobody really believed him. They're all as bad as each other!

If Keir Starmer had said before the election that he would remove the winter fuel allowance from millions of pensioners, add inheritance to family farms and family businesses, council tax & energy price increases, raise university tuition fees, plaster mass-scale solar panels on thousands of acres of prime farmland despite huge local community objections, spaff £22bn of taxpayers’ money on carbon capture machines, give £3bn a year of taxpayers’ money to Ukraine, betray WASPI women, hang out with BlackRock, pledge a 20% cut in meat & dairy and get exposed for receiving over £100,000 worth of freebies - he almost certainly wouldn’t have won. He duped the electorate. An utterly shameless display of snake oil political salesmanship. And still he lectures all of us in that gratingly sanctimonious manner of his like we are all somehow the problem here.

Since my rugby days are long gone (last century!), I rarely get asked, ‘Hey, aren’t you that rugby player?’ anymore. So I thought it’s time I start asking for selfies to thank those who recognise me! Here’s to the lovely Rebecca & Lee, though Rebecca hadn’t a clue who I was! x

🚨 Team update 🚨 Will Butt has come in to replace Cameron Redpath in today's clash against Harlequins. Starting alongside Ollie Lawrence in the midfield, Butt is set to start at inside centre.

@AldiUK we have been enjoying your protein yoghurt range recently, but I think this one has little *too* much extra added protein in it! Bit concerning given the use by date.....

@christophoto556 @Telegraph University education not essential either, but don't see Labour targeting that for VAT. Perhaps that's because it would affect too many of their supporters.....

@Telegraph Perhaps the private schools can reduce their profit margins? Private education is not essential and do it’s unfair on other businesses who have to pay vat

Labour's plans for a VAT raid on school fees has sparked fears that middle-class families will be priced out of private education. See how you could dodge the plans - and how parents can fight back with Telegraph Money's experts.

@northwalesstoki @ShaunSmiths @Herring1967 Maybe some fee paying parents have budgeted so very carefully that they can currently afford school fees (and checked they could do so for several years, long before this policy of envy was announced), but are now being thrown a curveball?

Surely parents who are sending their kids to private school but can't afford to pay VAT just need to learn to budget?

@katmgoddard @RogersHistory So should this also apply, for example, to luxury brands of children's shoes/clothes which don't charge VAT on such items? I'm quite sure that these luxury items aren't available to at least 93% of children too...

Not on LBC, but here are my thoughts: 1. VAT on private schools policy is correct IMO. 2. I don't believe there will be a massive surge from private to state as predictors are saying. 3. There is going to be a big drop in student numbers by 2030 in many areas of the country due to birth rate etc, some schools already closing. 4. This is a distraction from there being no teachers left to teach either way.

@katmgoddard @RogersHistory That still doesn't explain how state school parents are "funding" private school fees, though? ZERO money goes from taxes towards private schools. And fee paying parents don't get a tax break? I understand they don't pay VAT on fees, but that's not the same thing......

@stu_gordon @RogersHistory Tax break is being used to give 7% access to a level of privilege that is not being offered to 93% of kids. Those 7% of parents could choose to send their kids to the schools they are funding through tax, that 93% don't have access to the schools they are funding tax breaks for.

@katmgoddard @RogersHistory I don't understand this take on things. Surely the parents of private school pupils are the ones helping to subsidise the schooling of state school pupils through their taxes? Could one argue that if you're going to introduce VAT on fees, it'd be fair to give a tax break, too?

@RogersHistory Think it's also important to point out that this isn't about introducing a new tax but ending a tax break that is being paid in part by the 93% whose kids currently attend state school
