Good grief. Its not going to be $60B or $90, or $120 for that matter. 9yrs ago 46km of LRT in YYC was estimated at $4.6 B. Latest est( and could be more yet) is $20 B - and that's not high speed rail. With that $/km this is a $430 B project.
Franco Terrazzano@franco_nomics

"The project’s sponsors have estimated total construction costs at $60- to $90-billion ... That should set off alarm bells right there: when $30-billion shows up, not as the cost of the project, but just as the margin of error, you know you’re in trouble."

After years of cashing in on climate fear through renewables, fake meat and carbon schemes, Bill Gates is quietly changing his tune. In 2021, Gates warned that climate change would erase coastlines, kill millions and make outdoor life impossible. Now, he says the planet will cope just fine. But this was always the case... Satellite data show a greener planet with CO2 feeding more vegetation. The Lancet confirms cold kills at least 9X more people than heat. And studies point to reduced cloud cover, not CO2, as the main cause of recent warming. Great Barrier Reef coral cover is at record highs. And so too are polar bear populations. The climate didn't collapse. The narrative did.

@Cappy_Nate 20 billion to go 46 km across Calgary . Won't this have to go across urban areas in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City? This will be $150 B before they build anything in the rural areas

@stuartjyork Because it goes through a flat countryside with nothing on it. Not a densely populated urban area with stops every ~1km like LRT.

#Climate Fun Facts: The receding Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska has uncovered tree stumps carbon dated to be 1,000 to 2,000 years old. This means of course that it was warmer there before the glacier formed. And this was long before anthropogenic #CO2 could have played a role.

California began its high-speed rail adventure in 2008 with a budget of $34 billion USD & to be done by 2020 Now, it is 400% over budget & not a mile of track is operational yet. They hope to be done by 2040 The cretins in Ottawa said, "Let's try that in Canada!"

The Government started talking about the high speed rail in 1984. From 84 to 2010 almost $600,000,000 was spent on studies. Since 2020 over $4 billion has been spent on planning. Nothing is built. Not a single line of track. This is an epic boondoggle

Calgary Green line was $4.6 B at concept, now est $20B for 46km. High speed rail thru rural should be more expensive than in City where power is already there. This will be a $400 B project at least. No thank you in the loudest possible way.
Paul Mitchell@PaulMitchell_AB

Ottawa wants to spend $90 Billion on high-speed rail between Toronto and Quebec City. That's $4000 out of the pocket of every Canadian taxpayer to fund something that 99% will never use. As usual, Western Canadians will be paying to subsidize Ontario and Quebec. Insanity.

Mark Carney cancelled the TVA French debate but shames a CEO to step down and calls it "leadership". Michael Ma apologized and that's good enough Michael Rousseau (Air Canada) apologizes, but that isn't good enough Mark Carney is the worst Prime Minister in Canadian history.

The solution to too much government is to have another level of government pay for it. This won't help anything, but the developers will make more money and make nice donations to Rob and Mark.,.
Marc Nixon@MarcNixon24

BREAKING: Mark Carney announces $4.4 billion to reduce development fees in Ontario for four years. Ontario will match the $4.4 billion for a total of $8.8 billion. Instead of removing the development charges indefinitely they are using our taxes to fund the development charges
