I've migrated from here (handle: "vannogh", i.e., Van Nogh), but couldn't resist the urge to advertise this -- I'm quite proud of it 😀.

My new book for kids 4-8 is here! The book teaches Hindi vowel diacritics ("मात्रा") using a story of magicians, each with the power of one मात्रा, by changing which they change not just words, but also real-world things, e.g., transform a hand (हाथ) to an elephant (हाथी).

"Putzfrau" is cleaning lady or house maid in German. 5-year-old today mentioned "Zahnputzfrau" = teeth-cleaning-lady 😂. They have dentists visit schools to show children good dental hygiene.

@itsnotaboutwork Love your work! Do you do a rough pencil sketch, then colour (Watercolour?), then lines (some type of pen? marker?) ?

Does anyone who draws often actually use the textbook circles-and-shapes-then-detail approach? This is what my "process" right now looks like, and I'm looking for suggestions/feedback: (the names are the layer names I used for this project) 1. Early-shaping

@ShriramKMurthi Thanks Shriram. Do you draw? If not, can you see yourself doing the first one? The shift from the first to the second is much much smaller than it looks :)

@stub_AS Geez, I'm impressed by every one of those sketches!

The paints are a whole lot of separate layers. One thing I struggle with a lot is that I like the "loose lines" feeling, but lines that don't form enclosed regions are a PITA to paint digitally. How do other folks do this?

I created a Hindi children's book, for kids roughly from 2-8 years old 😀. It aims to teach kids Hindi sounds (for younger kids, age 2-4) and letters (for older ones, age 4-8) with funny images that show the consequences of changing just one letter in a phrase.

I came up with the (original for Hindi books?) concept, wrote some code to find pairs of words that differ by only one letter, made up phrases where switching out that letter is funny, and drew supporting illustrations.

@tagsalegirl Pretty! I wonder at times what your paintings of the American desert West (e.g., Canyonlands in the attached pic) with a palette heavy on reds, browns, and oranges (instead of greens and blues) would look like.
