At first glance, this stunning image looks like Saturn with its brilliant rings. But no, this is actually Uranus, the ice giant, captured in near-infrared light on November 19, 2002, along with its five main moons: Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, Titania and Oberon.
Taken with the ISAAC multi-mode instrument on the 8.2-meter ANTU telescope (part of ESO's Very Large Telescope at Paranal Observatory, Chile), this view reveals details invisible in normal light.
