We're proud to be sponsoring @EdinburghJS for the next 6 months. Last night our @alecmce gave a very nice intro to WebGL (the entire presentation itself a WebGL app - repo link to follow soon). Followed by @glennjones with a nice intro to various machine learning tools for JS

Models in engineering & science have *way* more complexity in geometry/materials than what conventional solvers can handle. But imagine if simulation was like Monte Carlo rendering: just load up a complex model and hit "go"; don't worry about meshing, basis functions, etc. [1/n]

@rsms @blixt Ahh yes, Chrome has made the warning less intrusive than it used to be and it only shows the first time in a session, which I had missed.

@subblue @blixt You can’t avoid the warning. Figma ships an electron wrapper app though where the warning banner is disabled.

As a little side project this week I’ve put together a simple playground for learning about input pointer latency in web browsers and experimenting with the idea of using path prediction, as demonstrated in this video. Play here: rsms.me/pointer-latenc…

@rsms @blixt I'm intrigued how you enabled the alt+click drag of a number field in Figma without it triggering the large pointer lock warning when within a browser?

@blixt Yeah! I actually implemented it in Figma a few years ago (if you hold ALT and click in a numeric input field and drag, you can “scrub” the value.) Did lots of research on latency and in Chrome at least, there’s no difference at all compared to pointer events.
