Very glad to have contributed to this paper, which David Eisenberg (citing Churchill) called "the end of the beginning" in the fight to cure Alzheimer's - just published in @NatureComms! 1/ nature.com/articles/s4146…

Our new pre-print is out! The result of a wonderful collaboration with the Tanaka lab at RIKEN Center for Brain Science. We investigate the question: what can yeast prions teach us about the connection between amyloid polymorphism and phenotype? researchsquare.com/article/rs-794…

Just created a “mock” grant on treating AD by eliminating or suppressing senescent cells. Now that I know what they are, I look forward to reading more about them. Seems like an interesting systemic approach to treatment.
Eric Topol@EricTopol

There's keen interest in getting rid of senescent cells in the body to slow the aging process. One little problem: there are many types of these cells, some are quite beneficial, essential for repair or regeneration cell.com/cell/fulltext/… @CellCellPress

Divisions over lecanemab: keeping an open mind - The Lancet. Found myself nodding along to this editorial piece that takes a realistic and optimistic position about where we are and what is likely to happen re treatments. Refreshing. thelancet.com/journals/lance…

@NateSilver538 Mostly fair but regardless of Biden personally, it can be seen as disingenuous to avoid any positive mention of 3.5 year track record just bc of Biden unfavorability. Separate the art from the artist and claim victory on major legislative bills w/ long-term impact (e.g., infra).

These Biden whiners are incredibly lucky that they got bailed out and that Harris is running a competitive campaign instead of a near-certain loss to Trump.
Selina Wang@selinawangtv

Some White House officials also disappointed that Harris did not stand up for Biden during the debate, a former Biden White House official tells me. Many felt Harris missed opportunities acknowledge that Biden deserves thanks for his service, according to the source.

@yashar @briantaff6abc Can’t completely evade criticisms of Biden. Embrace the good, but empathize with the dissatisfaction of inflation and use it as a launching pad to discuss increasing housing supply, supporting small biz, and anti-trust (which will bring prices down “the right way”.)

@yashar @briantaff6abc -“Difference from Biden” q. Domestically, Biden’s biggest drawback is inflation (which has greatly fallen). Quickly embrace the Biden success stories (e.g., infrastructure, climate change bills, COVID response, beating Trump), but pivot to “we need to do better” and here’s how.

Vice-President Kamala Harris sat down for her second tv interview since she jumped in the race as the presidential candidate. The interview was with Brian Taff of Philadelphia’s Action News 6 ABC. Here is the entire interview.

I believe it was shown that APOE does not adopt the helix bundle depicted in the image below under its physiologically-relevant lipidated state (cell.com/neuron/fulltex…). Going to read the review, but might need to be careful drawing conclusions from the helix bundle structure.

Also, the Trump retort “so why didn’t you do it already” when responding to Kamala’s plans falls flat when even after 3 elections and 1 Presidency, Trump only has the “concepts of a plan” for improving health insurance.

Clinical use of anti-amyloid antibody Leqembi is growing fast, and may soon overwhelm the capacity of dementia clinics to take on new patients. #alzheimersdisease ow.ly/9Ixg50QuWh5
