This is called Geopolitical Cartography. I devoted a full section of my book on this issue. Pakistan was earlier clubbed under "AfPak" because of its front line role in the US War on Terror that ruined Pakistan's economic indicators, and now it has been lumped with MENA which is a highly volatile region. Here is a GDP growth rate comparison of the regions: South Asia: 5-7% Middle East: 1-4% (high volatility) By involving itself too deep into the geopolitical mess of the Middle East, including defense agreements, loan payments, and personalized services, the ruling regime has sacrificed long term stability, growth and sovereignty for a short-term international relevance.

I welcome Iran’s announcements that the Strait of Hormuz is completely open for all commercial vessels for the remainder of the ceasefire. This a step in the right direction. The @UN position remains clear: we need the full restoration of international navigational rights & freedoms in the Strait of Hormuz, respected by everyone. I also hope that, together with the ceasefire, this measure will contribute to creating confidence between the parties and strengthen the ongoing dialogue facilitated by Pakistan.

Internationally historic day. Pakistan helped broker peace in the Gulf. The Strait of Hormuz is opening. President Trump is full of praise for Pakistan’s role. PM and Field Marshal are being acknowledged. Credit must be given where it is due. Domestically, Bushra BB was rushed to hospital. Had eye surgery. Then was sent straight back to her cell. @ImranKhanPTI remains in complete solitary confinement. Fabricated cases. No family contact. He is also suffering from a serious eye infection. But courts in the country keep turning a blind eye. You have succeeded in helping open the world’s most important waterway. Well done. Now time to show that same magnanimity at home. Open the prison gates and release all political prisoners. Thank you for your consideration to this matter.

A new documentary by the BBC World Service’s award-winning BBC Eye team has uncovered serious malpractice in the children’s ward of a government hospital in Punjab, Pakistan. In 2025, THQ Hospital in Taunsa was linked to an HIV outbreak among children. Although Punjab authorities pledged a crackdown, BBC Eye Investigations later found through secret filming that children continued to be placed at risk months afterward. In early 2025, a major rise in HIV cases among children prompted an investigation at THQ Hospital, Taunsa. Doctors at private clinics noticed that many infected children had previously been treated at the hospital and suspected unsafe injection practices. Parents also reported incidents of reused, blood-contaminated syringes being used on their children.

Most Pakistani local journalists are not capable of handling international affairs. This is due to poor analytical capacity and no formal training. Their main topic was how PTI is defeated, how Imran Khan is irrelevant, what Imran Khan is thinking in Adiala, and how foreign policy is better now, etc. Imagine this is their mental level in such intense times and important peace negotiations. The only good news is they are still better than Indian media
