Trump’s approach to India might confuse some youngsters. That’s why it is important to read history. 55 years back, Yahya Khan was the favorite of Nixon White House much like Munir is of Trump’s today … the names and dates are different but the approach & language very familiar. #HistoryMatters 🇮🇳🇺🇸

Today marks the one year anniversary of the 2025 Pahalgam Massacre, an Islamist terrorist attack on tourists in India's Jammu and Kashmir. My prayers are with the families of the victims. Honestly, you might as well call it the Pakistan Pahalgam Massacre, as the Pakistani Government is responsible for it. And for 9/11 in the U.S. PM @narendramodi, the Indian people, and America should not be taken as fools. The President and The White House can’t offer messages of solidarity with India while cozying and rewarding the perpetrators. That’s not diplomacy. That’s hypocrisy.

Sit down Rajdeep. You supported the farmer blockade that went on for over a year & caused traffic havoc. Also the shaheen bagh protests that screwed Delhi traffic for 4-5 months? As I recollect you were benched for falsely claiming some tractor terrorist was shot yes?
Rajdeep Sardesai@sardesairajdeep

IMPORTANT: Can we have a ban on ALL political protests on main roads at peak hours on weekdays across India? If you wish to protest, please do so in a designated area at a fixed time. Protestors are brought in buses, main roads are blocked, traffic gets congested and citizens bear the brunt. Mumbai yesterday, where else tomorrow? 😡

Dear outsiders who are jumping in to protect #democracy in #WestBengal, pls be aware that we haven't seen that thing for 60 yrs. All govts changed since 1960's through violence. All ruling parties unleashed record violence on Opposition. #Congress, #Left and #Trinamool - every ruling party broke the record of the previous one in terms of atrocities on Opposition, including critics. I speak for a price. In last 30 yrs over 550 #children were killed by crude bombs. We have been reeling under cycles of violence and de-industrialisation for 60 yrs. During the period we have made #election rigging our political right. 60 years and 3 parties, made a prospering state into one of the poorest in terms of per-capita. From an industrial-hub to a 'chop-muri' and bomb-making hub. #Northeast became peaceful. #Bihar improved. Only Bengal slid into nowhere. But for some stupid "democratic principles," this state should have been long brought under President's rule.

As an Indian, hailing from Kashmir, with Muslim heritage, whose family has paid the price of standing against this madness—exile in my own country, threats, ostracism—I demand better. No more half-measures. No more “dialogue” with those who glorify terrorists as martyrs. Deradicalise the classrooms, the mosques, the drawing rooms where “azaadi” is code for Nizam-e-Mustafa. Rehabilitate the Pandits not as tokens but as rightful sons of the soil. And hold the separatist ecosystem accountable without the seasonal toggling of the switch. Read slowly! Someone who is writing best of columns on West Bengal politics told me today whoever looks ‘dominating, strong and having total control over Pan-Bengal’ will win. In other words whoever wants to win must exhibit to the voters his/her Dhurandhar image and he/she must be controlling’Gangs of Wasseypur.’ This image works. The Bengali voters won’t vote weak-looking parties (Left and Congress) and the leader with a chicken-heart. It’s a kind of complex play of fear factors, ‘syndicate’ nuisance, toll bazi and cut money in each constituency. IF, @BJP4Bengal fails to win mandate it will be because people were apprehensive that it’s not ‘capable’ to ‘dominate’ as @MamataOfficial is dominating in every sphere of the society including administration.

To protect our youth from the scourge of drugs, the Modi govt is ruthlessly demolishing drug cartels and is also ensuring their conviction. Under this mission, the NCB has made a breakthrough of getting 73 drug offenders convicted in the first three months of 2026, with harshest punishments. We are determined to shut every breathing space of drug rackets with entire might. Congratulations to NCB for this achievement.

Vulture populations in India collapsed. 500,000 people died as a result. In the 1990s, Indian farmers started using a cheap painkiller called diclofenac on their cattle. When vultures ate the carcasses, the drug destroyed their kidneys. Without vultures, cattle carcasses rotted in fields instead of being stripped clean in 45 minutes. Feral dog populations exploded by five million. Rabies cases surged. Pathogens spread through water supplies. University of Chicago economists compared death rates in districts that used to have vultures to districts that never did. Human mortality rose more than 4% after the collapse. Over 100,000 extra deaths a year. Half a million in five years. India banned the drug in 2006. The vultures still haven't recovered. This is what a keystone species is to us. This is why we protect the animals nobody finds cute.

Anti-Modi stance has great viewership online. Not just in India but also from the neighborhood. Pro-Modi/Neutral voices will realise the pot of gold is somewhere else, even a mildly accusatory video will give them great viewership and subsequent ad-dollars. The algorithm will slowly sway them away to the other side. Keep watching.

Watching @ShreyasIyer15 perform that acrobatic fielding to assist in taking the “team catch “ made me appreciate how fielding has evolved since my retirement. For a long time, I felt like the “father of fielding”, but watching these modern athletes with their timing and awareness on the boundary line, makes me feel like the “grandfather of fielding”! I spent 99% of my career fielding in the inner circle, and when I started working as a fielding coach, there was no focus on the modern day “hotspots” on the boundaries. It was only when I started working with @mipaltan and saw Kieron Pollard, and then Glenn Maxwell, performing these incredible “airborne saves” on the boundaries that we started focusing on not only taking catches off balls that were already beyond the rope, but even saving the ball from going for a sixer, and forcing the batters to run only 1 or 2. With impact players transforming the way that batters can continuously attack the bowling, even with the loss of 4-5 wickets, bowlers need to be backed up by their fielders, and Shreyas’ spectacular“catch and release” was a perfect example of that. But let’s face it; when your head coach is @RickyPonting, one of the greatest fielders in the game, it should not come as a great surprise to see such incredible feats in the field!

Now that the 131st Amendment Bill failed, allocation of Lok Sabha seats will be based on 2026 census data. As per current estimates, seven States will likely lose 35 seats: AP (-5), Telangana (-3), TN (-10), Karnataka (-2), Kerala (-7), Odisha (-4), and WB (-4). Four States will likely gain 34 seats: UP (+12), Bihar (+10), MP (+5), and Rajasthan (+7). BJP is widely believed to be the potential beneficiary of redistribution of seats to States based on 2026 population. In a stunning act of self-denial, the NDA government came forward to freeze the current share of States based on the 1971 census data. There could be many reasons for BJP committing to such a freeze - putting the nation above the party, paving the way for expanding their footprint in the South, or avoiding a divisive issue when the nation has to focus on growth and prosperity in the face of global challenges. Whatever be the motivation of BJP, the seven States that lost share of population are offered an unexpected gift. You don't look a gift horse in the mouth! Surprisingly, the parties which have great stakes in the South and East have scored a spectacular self goal. This is a classic case of cutting the nose to spite the face. In 2001, as the freeze in seats was expiring, I was deeply involved in persuading the then Vajpayee government to continue the freeze in the number of seats allocated to States for another 25 years. An unwieldy coalition and the economic challenge posed by external sanctions after the Pokharan explosion demanded national unity, and the parties responded with the 84th Amendment. Now again a priceless opportunity arose, and the Opposition squandered it without any strategic thinking. If political animosity makes you oblivious of your own interest, or larger interests of fostering unity and focusing on growth and harmony, it is a sign of dysfunctional politics. I appeal to all parties to come together and find a harmonious solution to the thorny problem of seats allocation in the face of demographic imbalances. National unity and our quest for opportunity and prosperity for all demand a fair and swift resolution. In the long run migration will resolve the imbalances. Already millions of migrant workers are building and sustaining the economies of several States in the South, West and North. That is why, despite low fertility rate, Maharashtra's share of the population is increasing. In the US, dramatic internal migration changed the demography and representation over the years. People move freely to States where there is growth and jobs are created. In a century, Florida increased its representation in the US Congress from 4 to 28, California from 11 to 52, Texas from 18 to 38, and Washington from 5 to 10. Owing to outward migration, New York lost seats, from 43 to 26, Pennsylvania from 36 to 17, Illinois from 27 to 17, Ohio from 22 to 15, and Missouri from 16 to 8. We should make it easy for people to migrate to other States and recognize and respect their constitutional rights everywhere and make their life easier and safe. That will resolve our demographic challenges. Most states reached low fertility levels, and Bihar, UP, MP, Rajasthan and Jharkhand too are going to reach there in a few years. We need a reasoned and pragmatic approach to grow together and become strong. Let us persuade parties to shed inflammatory and divisive rhetoric and focus on quality education and skills and opportunities for all.
