Miles driven based tax and if you're vehicle is heavier, they wear out quicker.

U.S. House lawmakers have proposed bipartisan legislation that would require electric vehicles to pay a $130 fee to pay for road repairs annually and $35 for some plug-in hybrid models.
The House is working on a five-year highway reauthorization bill expected to cost more than $500 billion ahead of the current law expiration on Sept 30, 2026. Most revenue for federally funded road repairs is collected through diesel and gasoline taxes, which EVs do not pay.
I think $130 is fair since over time there will be fewer gas vehicles on the road generating tax revenue, They'll need to make up the difference somewhere so they can keep repairing roads, etc.

Ugh. I hate when someone pisses me off. My son and his friends are hanging out and making a fire tonight. 2 of the kids I just don’t like. They give me bad vibes. It was 830 and they were being pretty loud. So I said keep it down I do have neighbors. One kids said it’s only 830. I said I don’t give a fuck what time it is. Actually, AI/Robotics will mean everyone can have a penthouse if they want. The output of goods & services will be several orders of magnitude higher than today’s economy. Read the Iain Banks Culture books for the best imagining of how it will be. That said, what is the future you want? Amazing abundance seems the best to me.

A comment / our thoughts on the state of HW3 and a Full Self-Driving (Unsupervised) future, from a HW3 owner.
We are quoting this as @SawyerMerritt has highlighted that the #1 investor question right now pertains to HW3.

As a HW3 Model 3 owner (and one of the first to get a retrofit from HW2.5), I don’t think it’s per se an issue with the answer we’ve received from Tesla, and more so the timeline. Everyone has their own tolerances for waiting; while I don’t mind waiting years, others feel differently. Many will lose their vehicle or sell it (whether to upgrade to another Tesla or not) before seeing Unsupervised come to fruition. So I think that rephrasing the question to request a formal timeline and commitment, rather than guestimations, would appease the largest group of HW3 owners. “You will receive Unsupervised after we solve it on AI4” has already been given (and is a solid answer). Still, without tangible commitments, it leaves owners (and retail investors) with more questions. If a software only solution is on the table, more confidence is necessary. If a form of retrofit is required, try to set a firm limit on anticipation. I believe we all mutually feel this way. ❤️
