@ericabrescia Engineering is still too variable to be able to easily quantify for people management purposes. I think they can be a tool to help an engineer improve their impact, but shouldn't be solely used for performance management.

@ericabrescia I worked at a startup that used one of these tools. It was used as a means of managing out people and hitting a metric for the sake of the metric. I believe it might be actionable for the people who are let go via these tools since the standards are not applied fairly.

Eng leaders: how many of you use some type of tool for understanding engineering productivity/velocity? Are you looking at cycle times / PRs in progress / other metrics in a dashboard? See so many companies trying to solve this prob, but haven't found many buying it.

@pokerchessman @Carnage4Life It would be enlightening to see the profit breakdown for each of these companies' divisions as well. There would be some significant shifts in those circles.

@spencerwi Last night we were watching something on TV at 8:30pm, and a political ad came on. I guess they had too much money left over in the ad budget to stop them by the close of polls.

It's so overwhelming here that even one of the candidates had an ad that started with "I'm ready for this to be over"

@comcast My internet _constantly_ drops out for a few minutes at a time throughout the day. I've confirmed it's not a router issue -- the problem appears to start upstream of my cable modem. Since I started measuring, I average 10+ connectivity losses per day. 1/2

@spencerwi Had a similar issue with Comcast years ago. Internet would reset every 30-40 minutes. The physical connection was weak at the pole and the tech came out, replaced the wire from the pole to my house and everything was copacetic again. I also wrote a script to gather data.
