In the age of AI, I wonder if the role of parents in their kids’ career choices is changing. Prior to AI, the traditional view of parenting was to help your child graduate high school and go to college (or at least get into a trade). But with AI, things are shifting. AI is taking over various areas of knowledge work, so just getting your kids “educated” doesn’t seem to guarantee a good job long-term. I think it can be helpful to divide jobs into a few categories: 1. Knowledge work: Jobs where your intellect makes you money. 2. Physical labor: Jobs that predominantly require manual work. 3. Capital: Letting your capital make you money, whether via real estate, interest, equities, etc. 4. Capital management: Probably a spinoff of knowledge work, but focused on managing assets. 5. Risk-taking and people management: Are these higher-level skills than intellect? Maybe. But there is definitely a case to be made for entrepreneurship, hustle, and good people-managing skills. As we dive deeper into the AI era, parents need to think deeply about what kind of jobs will be available for their kids as they become adults and how to help them prepare. Is the best approach still just getting your kids into college and letting them figure it out (the typical approach)? Or does the changing world require a changing role for parents—perhaps one that is more proactive and engaging, where the parent and child work together to find the right career path? Also with AI, how many times will it disrupt what we know about careers? Perhaps every 5 to 10 years? One idea is to have parents go all-in with helping their child develop super high creativity, amazing people-management skills, strong hustle, and high entrepreneurial skills. Will that be enough to allow their child's career to be enhanced by AI and not disrupted? Another idea is relying on capital—letting the parents' capital provide income to their children. Typically, this has been largely frowned upon by culture. Wealthy families sometimes use workarounds where their adult children manage the family’s real estate or assets, so there is still some work getting done. Some parents also bring their adult children into their business as partners or apprentices, grooming them to take over one day. There’s also the concept of parents actively working alongside their adult children to help them find jobs or adapt to changing industries. This is interesting. Perhaps the parent’s role simply has a longer horizon now than it did in the past. I'm not sure what the right idea is, but I wonder who else is thinking about this. Who else is writing about it? What are the most innovative and interesting ideas out there regarding all of this?

Failing to pass the proposal would not just lose Elon’s talent, but many others that quickly follow. Vote wisely.
Tesla@Tesla

With Tesla’s Annual Meeting fast approaching on November 6, Board Chair, Robyn Denholm, sent a letter to shareholders on the critical nature of this vote. The fundamental question for shareholders at this year’s Annual Meeting is simple: Do you want to retain Elon as Tesla’s CEO and motivate him to drive Tesla to become the leading provider of autonomous solutions and the most valuable company in the world? Make your voice heard — vote with Tesla on ALL proposals today! votetesla.com Dear Fellow Shareholders, As you know, Tesla is at a critical inflection point, and we need your vote to help determine the future direction of our evolving company. Your vote matters, and the deadline for voting is 11:59pm ET on November 5th. The fundamental question for shareholders at this year’s Annual Meeting is simple: Do you want to retain Elon as Tesla’s CEO and motivate him to drive Tesla to become the leading provider of autonomous solutions and the most valuable company in the world? Kathleen and I engaged in a rigorous, seven-month Special Committee process resulting in a highly customized performance plan that aligns shareholder value and measurable business outcomes with the interests of our CEO. Our goal was two-fold: (1) retain and incentivize Elon to capitalize on the unique opportunities that lie ahead for Tesla and (2) do so in a manner that promotes the development of products and services that will propel our world toward a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous future while creating unparalleled value for our shareholders. We’ve done this by challenging Elon with the potential to secure what he values most—meaningful voting influence—conditioned on his commitment to continue leading Tesla for at least another 7.5 years while successfully driving our company to ambitious new heights. The bottom line is simple: Elon is rewarded only if and when he delivers extraordinary performance that benefits all Tesla shareholders. When negotiating this performance award, we necessarily considered what Tesla’s future without Elon would look like, and we did not believe it was the future that our shareholders deserve. At a time when companies—both big and small—are competing to be the first to bring groundbreaking AI technologies to market, we could not risk losing the best leader in the industry to put Tesla on top. Now is a pivotal moment for our company to emerge as a leader in AI, and with our exceptional CEO at the helm, we are perfectly positioned to seize it. Though it’s no question that Elon has other pursuits, he has proven that one of the many things that make him unique is his ability to stretch his capacity beyond normal limits and remain successful at Tesla. However, if we fail to foster an environment that motivates Elon to achieve great things through an equitable pay-for-performance plan, we run the risk that he gives up his executive position, and Tesla may lose his time, talent and vision, which have been essential to delivering extraordinary shareholder returns. Without Elon, Tesla could lose significant value, as our company may no longer be valued for what we aim to become: a transformative force reimagining the fundamental building blocks of mobility, energy and labor, with products such as FSD and Optimus, and working to better humanity in the process. While there may be nothing wrong with being just another car company, our Board believes that Tesla can be more, that our shareholders deserve more, and that Elon is the right leader to help us achieve our full potential. Elon’s leadership is also built upon the critical support of our “tailor made” governance structure, including our carefully constructed Board. Good governance should be customized to the company, not applied with a “cookie cutter” approach, and it is exemplified by the results that Tesla has delivered, and this Board has overseen. We therefore ask you to vote “for” the three members of the Board—Ira, Kathleen and Joe—who are up for re-election to ensure that the Board, which has worked alongside Elon for years, complementing and enhancing his efforts to deliver extraordinary shareholder returns, remains in place. That is why your vote is so consequential to the future of our company. A vote here is both an endorsement of Elon’s vision and a vote for Tesla’s carefully tailored strategy and governance. I urge you to support Proposal One, which ensures the continued leadership and support of our outstanding and experienced directors, as well as Proposals Three and Four, which aim to keep Elon focused on our mission here at Tesla. I feel strongly—as do the rest of my colleagues on our Board—that Elon singularly possesses the leadership characteristics and technical manufacturing know-how to keep us on the path towards maximizing long-term shareholder value as well as social good. We at Tesla are laser focused on exceptional performance—not promises—and we structure our awards in line with this principle. If you care about building a better world for humanity and supporting our vision for Sustainable Abundance—then you should vote “FOR” Proposals One, Three and Four. If you want Tesla to have a shot at becoming the world’s most valuable company—then you should vote “FOR” Proposals One, Three and Four. Please read the Special Committee Report, which is attached to this year’s proxy statement, for a more detailed explanation of Kathleen’s and my work in coming to the essential conclusions embodied in the proxy statement and how we structured this performance plan to align Elon’s incentives with delivering extraordinary performance for all of you. Thank you for your continued support of Tesla. Very truly yours, Robyn Denholm Chairperson of the Board

Daddy is very much home. Am burning the midnight oil with Optimus engineering on Friday night, then redeye overnight to Austin arriving 5am, wake up to have lunch with my kids and then spend all Saturday afternoon in deep technical reviews for the Tesla AI5 chip design. Fly to Colossus II on Monday to walk the whole datacenter floor, review transformers and power production (excellent progress), depart midnight. Then up to 12 hours of back to back meetings across all Tesla departments, but particular focus on AI/Autopilot, Optimus production plans and vehicle production/delivery.

I would like to help fund legal actions against corrupt officials who aided and abetted the rape of Britain, per the official government inquiry. Please reply below for consideration.

Our Rape Gang Inquiry has today released research detailing eighty-five local authorities in which the gang-based sexual exploitation of children is taking place, or has historically done so. This is one of the most comprehensive exposes of the rape gang scandal to date.

My wife is getting her 2nd chemo infusion today. I’ve been in the chemo infusion room for past 4+ hours… surrounded by 40 other people getting chemo in same room, all different ages, all different walks of life. All facing the unknown of how much time they have left. None of us really knows how much time we have left. Gotta embrace the moment, appreciate the blessings we have, and live the best life we can. 💪🏻

Today is my 6 month chemo-anniversary (i.e, from when my oncologist decided it was no longer safe for me to continue). My toenails are still a bit weird, my eyebrows are weak, I have some general numbness in my feet, and my very short hair is coming in curly. But other than that I feel normal and energetic and I am loving it. I walk 4-6 miles/day and I'm on 4 immunotherapy drugs and not experiencing any nontrivial adverse effects. Scans and tumor marker tests are great. Enjoying major travel and time with my sweetheart and friends. #fuckcancer

Heavenly Father, We come before You today to lift up Dave Lee's beloved wife as she faces the challenge of stage 3 breast cancer and begins her chemotherapy journey. Lord, You are the ultimate healer, and we ask for Your comforting presence to surround her during this time. Grant her strength and courage as she undergoes these four cycles of treatment over the next three months. May each session bring her closer to healing, and may her body respond well, with minimal side effects. Fill her heart with peace that surpasses understanding, and let her feel Your love and the support of her family and friends standing with her. We also pray for Dave and their loved ones, that they may find resilience and hope as they support her through this journey. Guide the hands of the doctors, nurses, and medical team, giving them wisdom and compassion as they care for her. Lord, we trust in Your plan and ask for a full recovery, that she may emerge from this trial stronger and healthier. Thank You for being a God who hears our prayers and walks with us through every storm. In Your holy name, we pray, Amen 🙏

I believe there’s a strong likelihood that Trump, if elected, could end the Ukraine-Russia war before his term even begins. In contrast, if Harris were elected, there’s a significant chance the war would not only continue but possibly escalate, potentially drawing in more countries. While the Ukraine-Russia conflict is not the sole issue in this election, it is undeniably one of great importance, with profound implications for global stability and U.S. foreign policy. Trump’s Strategy to End the War Trump’s approach to ending the war would likely focus on actions aimed at altering the current incentive structure. First, Trump could pressure Ukraine to formally abandon its aspirations to join NATO. He could make it clear to Zelensky that without this concession, U.S. funding for Ukraine’s defense would end. This would fundamentally shift the dynamic by forcing Ukraine to reconsider its priorities. At the same time, Trump could offer Ukraine a “carrot”—substantial funds for post-war rebuilding, as a way to soften the blow and incentivize negotiations. Further, in exchange for Ukraine abandoning its NATO ambitions, it would receive international security guarantees to protect against potential future Russian aggression. Next, Trump would likely convince Putin that a non-NATO Ukraine is the best deal he can hope for. Putin, having sought assurances against NATO expansion for years, could see this as a victory and a reason to de-escalate. In this context, Trump would negotiate a border settlement, pushing both sides to make some concessions but ensuring that the main focus—Ukrainian neutrality—would be locked in. Harris and the Risk of Escalation On the other hand, Harris would likely continue the Biden administration’s strategy of funding Ukraine’s military and hoping that prolonged support will eventually bring an end to the war. However, this approach risks perpetuating the conflict indefinitely. As long as the U.S. continues to supply military aid, Putin will see this as direct U.S. aggression against Russia, further solidifying his resolve to keep fighting. In turn, Ukraine’s reliance on U.S. military aid and the lingering hope of eventual NATO membership will keep fueling its resistance. Without a fundamental shift in this dynamic, the war could drag on for years, bleeding both nations and possibly escalating to involve neighboring countries. U.S. policymakers seem to be overlooking that this war cannot be won by either side militarily without catastrophic consequences. What’s missing from the Biden-Harris approach is the recognition that this war can be negotiated to an end—and the U.S. has the leverage to make that happen. The Path to Negotiation Contrary to the current administration’s reluctance to fully commit to diplomatic resolution, I believe the Ukraine-Russia war is one that can and should be negotiated to a close. While some wars are indeed beyond negotiation, this is not one of them. The U.S. is in a unique position to pressure both sides into compromise, especially if it’s willing to use its economic and military aid as bargaining chips. It’s crucial to recognize that continuing to support Ukraine militarily without a clear endgame only prolongs the suffering and risks an even larger conflict. Under a Trump administration, we would likely see a more assertive push for negotiations—using hard leverage, but ultimately driving toward peace. In contrast, under Harris, the war might well become a quagmire, with no end in sight and greater risks of escalation. In summary, while the outcome of the Ukraine-Russia war is far from the only issue in this election, it is a significant one. Trump’s strategy offers the best chance for a swift resolution, while Harris’ continuation of current policies may allow the conflict to spiral into something far more dangerous.

I do think that Tesla can learn some from Rivian’s design choices with the R1S and R2. I think there’s large demand for a more standard looking SUV with a boxier rear compared to the Model Y crossover look. I know @woodhaus2 has emphasized Tesla prioritizes aerodynamics and thus the reason for the crossover rear look of the Model Y. However, with battery/range improvements I think Tesla could and should consider offering another design option for a SUV.

In Afghanistan the Taliban have banned girls from attending school after the 6th grade. Yet there's a glimmer of hope as some brave the risk to form underground schools. ------- "In a poor neighbourhood on the outskirts of Kabul, Ershad, a teacher and a researcher in sociology, discovered 10 schoolgirls, and among them was Diba. They all gathered in a home to share their stories with Ershad. The girls had been banned from attending schools and universities. Instead, they were forced to weave carpets from morning till evening at home every day, earning 2,000 Afghanis – about $10 a month. Many were left feeling depressed and hopeless. Some even tried to take their own lives. “I just wanted to document their stories and maybe write about them one day. But when I saw their tears, I asked them what can I do for you? And they answered that they want to learn English,” says Ershad. He tried to find a sponsor for the girls and introduced them to an English teacher. He himself started teaching them life skills, and his wife also agreed to teach maths. Gradually, the number of their students increased, and he thought of creating a secret school. Without any budget, he raised money with the support of his trusted Afghan and Iranian friends, rented a room, and called it ShiftLand, “The inspiring land of shifting and enlightenment.” The ShiftLand teachers, mostly Iranian, are all volunteers, teaching the girls online from the UK, Germany, India, and Iran. Children’s literature, philosophy for children and English are the main topics of the school. Also, an Iranian psychologist provides online individual consultations to the girls voluntarily, helping them to cope with their difficulties. The students’ age group varies, ranging from seven years old, with the majority of the girls in secondary school and above. Some adult students even take on the role of teaching younger ones. Now, 300 Afghan girls are studying in this secret school under the rule of the Taliban, with 40 of them studying English to pass language tests next year and apply for scholarships." bigissue.com/news/activism/…
