This athletic looking man served a tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1959; while in the Marine Corps, he boxed regularly, winning 32 of 34 boxing bouts. He went on to be a popular character actor in many movies and tv series, as well as a much loved supporting character in one of the most popular movie franchises of the late 70s. That franchise made sequels reaching all the way to 2006 in which he acted in each of the original movie's subsequent sequels. Do you know who this young boxer is?

We have lost 42 aircraft of which 24 are drones so that leaves us with 18 manned aircraft losses. Out of these three were friendly fire and 7 were from the rescue operation of the F-15E that was shot down over Iran. 24 aircraft losses spread out across over 10,200 air sorties striking over 13,000 individual targets. With nearly 40% of the aircraft lost from a single event, I don't think that's a sign of US power decline in the slightest.
Phillips P. OBrien@PhillipsPOBrien

Just sent out this post. US losses across the board fighting Iran, but particularly involving aircraft, are revealing worrying signs that US military efficiency is in decline and not what it was. The loss rates are many times higher than Vietnam and Desert Storm. A fish rots from the head down.

I am deeply appalled by the conduct and rhetoric of Israeli Cabinet minister Itamar Ben-Gvir in relation to the Global Sumud Flotilla. Scotland stands with the people of Gaza. We need to see more humanitarian aid coming in, and every effort must be made to secure lasting peace.

9/n All this is super uncomfortable for us, the catholics kids of the 60s and 70s. And friendships ARE being lost. Celtic isn’t what it used to be. We saw that all too vividly in the Trongate. The answer isn’t theology or John Ogilvie. Celtic is better than all this.

This tweet below saddened me. What has been important to observe in recents days month years is the introspection of the educated Scottish Catholic. There is a bit of a hidden struggle going on. Friendships are being lost. Can I spend a few tweets to explain? 1/n

To the untrained eye this is just neds from Coatbridge battering each other, but to an erudite Herald columnist this is actually a continuation of the debate surrounding the Second Vatican Council and Cardinal Winning’s reforming approach

Just to be clear, because it's going to be a long by-election. I know Andy Burnham and like him. I hope he wins in Makerfield, because I don't think the current situation with Keir Starmer is sustainable (as I've written on several occasions). But the crucial thing is that at the moment I think he will win. So I'm going to write about why. Others can get excited about Brexit and Plucky Plumbers. But I think to date Burnham's perfectly framed his campaign as the local, anti-establishment insurgent. When I was in Gorton no-one ever mentioned a single current or historic policy position for any of the candidates. I expect it to be the same in Makerfield. If that changes, I'll write about that too. If people find that problematic other outlets are available. Like Socialist Worker. Or Bloomberg...

@afneil You need to get out of London, Andrew. You’ve clearly got no idea how much people here are struggling. And, yes, a lot of it can be traced back to Margaret Thatcher.

Except that it purports to claim that the area (Makerfield) has been a victim of 40 years of Thatcherism (that’s what Burnham seems to be running against, which means he’s also running against the Blair-Brown government, of which he was a part). Yet the backdrop to his wandering shows rows of neat, well-kept, substantial semi-detached homes, with plenty new cars in the driveways and a vibrant high street, despite all the road works improving it. Oh yes and a state school so good he sent his kids to it. Put simply — the pictures clash with his words of victimhood and deprivation.

One of the most effective bits of political communication on the left I’ve seen in a long time. A message and a powerful messenger.

Will John Beaton, Andrew Dallas, Nick Walsh, Willie Collum & Kevin Clancy be collecting their league winners medals with the rest of the Celtic team today, or is there a private ceremony for them?

Has there ever been a reaction like this to any footballing outcome? It has become a worldwide story; everyone now sees Celtic & their fans for what they are. No matter how they try to gloss it; they know they cheated & it’s a false title.

It is imperative there is a full, independent & rigorous investigation into the corruption in Scottish football. All the officials involved in the conspiracy should be suspended pending the outcome. The cheating & corruption to deliver to Celtic a title they have not won has been absolutely disgusting. They are a rancid bunch; the most reviled club in world football.

Martin O’Neill inherited a shambles, left and then returned to an even bigger shambles. The Celtic board owe him a huge debt for handling the toxicity and for papering over their myriad failings. This was O’Neill’s title. bbc.co.uk/sport/football…

The eyes of the world were on Scottish football this weekend. The title race captivated a global audience as it all came down to a final showdown. Yet even with the world watching on, Celtic couldn’t help but show themselves for what they are. Their fans violently attacked players and staff of their opponents - and not for the first time. This only happens because of the culture of unaccountability both within the SPL, who allow Celtic to act with impunity, and the Celtic Football Club themselves, who would rather celebrate thuggery by their fans instead of tackle it. Celtic as a club, as a fan base, and as an institution, are a perpetual embarrassment to Scotland and to football. Constantly bringing the beautiful game into disrepute.
