It's a calm, dry #SaturdayMorning in #Orkney but it's starting to feel more autumny now with longer shadows and a sense of late summer light. The wildflowers in our raised planters continue to evolve. The trees are beginning to lose their leaves. The balls are unchanged.

@admirathoria @TheRegencyCook Do you think it's important to use a specific lettuce? For example, Iceberg (a ghastly thing) is tasteless, IMO. In fact, a tasty soup like this might be the making if it!

An eighteenth-century recipe for 'French Peas Soup' calls for 6 large lettuce, parsley, onions, beet leaves, purloin, sorrel, marigold, of each a handful. Cut & put in a pan with butter, pepper & salt, when half-stewed add a pottle of peas & cook until ready. Tempted?

@MadameGilflurt I adore this film. I was a cinema manager in Liverpool when it came out. One snowy night we had an opera company (Welsh, I think) come to see it. Took up whole back row. During the writing of the death mass scene, the tenors and baritones joined in. The climatic "Amen"

After a trip to the pictures. I can confirm that the 4K restoration of Amadeus makes an already stunning film look even more amazing. I love it so much.

Do you feel like eating an eighteenth-century Cabobb? Often when confused about recipes written in the 1700s (or earlier) I try saying them out aloud a few times. Have a go. And so Cabobb, is a KEBAB, pieces of roast mutton, herbed, spiced & prepared on skewers. Sound tasty?

LOOK AT OUR BEAUTIFUL BOOKBENCH! ❤️ It's 1 of 41 large Bookbenches (and 38 small Bookbenches) waiting to be discovered in a public art trail created by @BookBenchTrail in support of @ClanNow which supports people impacted by a cancer diagnosis across the North East of Scotland.

@brianjaffa It's interesting, as I did exactly that for Edinburgh and it has more than paid off to create a sustainable business. But not so much for London. They're both very different places but I reckon Edinburgh is the perfect size for it perhaps? More sense of community.

@RevRichardColes I have one - a smart leather one that I *ahem* acquired from my employer back in the 90s. I may go back to using it. Always have a physical diary. I find that I digitally log appointments etc, but it's only when I write it down on a page that it really gets logged in my mind.

@TheRegencyCook The first tea in Scotland was taken in the grounds of Holyroodhouse! James, Duke of York brought it to impress the cantankerous Scots.

A good story? True? The first cup of tea made in England was drank where Buckingham Palace now stands. The Earl of Arlington imported the first pound of tea for 60 shillings in the year of the great plague. Gaze upon Arlington House, replaced by Buckingham Palace.
