One in three women around the world is subjected to violence. Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. One in three women around the world is subjected to physical or sexual violence in her lifetime, most often by a man with whom they have a close relationship. On 21–27 September, the 80th session of the UN General Assembly is being commemorated in New York. In conjunction with the session, a high-level debate and several high-level meetings will convene. During the high-level week, Sweden will raise issues such as maintaining strong global support for Ukraine and defending the rules-based international order. This year, Sweden holds the Presidency of the @UN_Women Executive Board and a major focus will be on gender equality, as it is a core value of Swedish foreign policy and a priority area for Sweden’s work at the UN.
