@nikicaga I mean yeah, in-universe, but do you think Martin was making an elaborate joke with it?

Yesterday I overheard my 3 year old son saying “Are you sure this is a good idea” and my five year old son replying “Trust me” and I have never moved from one room to another so quickly in my life.

@TrueSlazac I mean it's objectively annoying that creates a paragraph instead of a one word answer. This a great candidate for AI and a terrible candidate for Agenic AI

@narrenhut Drug abuse is very common in the Hasidic community for the same reason it's common with the Amish. If they leave the cult they have no support system or life skills

it is apparent that living in america is much sadder and grimmer than it was thirty, twenty, or even ten years ago this should give us some pause about the notion of "progress" and indeed this is probably related to the undoing of the american liberal political tradition

@fedtanyl @pnwsnorlax_ The idea that artificial intelligence will follow uncapped exponential growth is entirely unsubstantiated. There's really no reason to assume it's true

@pnwsnorlax_ I say this for a few reasons. The first is because humans have a horrible intuition when it comes to exponential growth so it’s bound to look very unrealistic, the second is because most of the authors (and experts) have slightly longer timelines, and because the

If anyone is wondering how (or why) artificial superintelligence might wipe out humanity, I highly recommend reading AI 2027. And to think about the underlying incentives and rationale rather than hyperfixating on the projected timelines. ai-2027.com

Guy Benson@guypbenson

Partial list of politically-motivated assassinations and assassination attempts from the past decade: - Leftist attempts mass assassination of GOP Congressional baseball team, nearly killing Scalise - Leftist arrested in assassination plot outside the home of conservative SCOTUS Justice Kavanaugh - Leftist assassinates conservative media personality and TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk - Leftist arrested in assassination plot against WH budget director Vought - Three separate assassination attempts against POTUS Donald Trump (all 3 by reported donors to Democrat/Left causes / one was a registered R prior to Dem-aligned donation & shooting Trump in the head) - Man murders Dem lawmakers in MN (suspect has some right-wing beliefs, also is a former Dem appointee, also says the Dem governor told him to do it) - Man sets PA Governor mansion ablaze with Dem Gov & family asleep inside (suspect is a ‘globalize the intifada’ terrorist/antisemite) - Man attacks Paul Pelosi with a hammer (unclear if this counts as an assassination attempt or politically motivated / suspect has a bizarre worldview, with a mix of far left and far right views/conspiracies) - Also worth noting various celebrations / justifications of violent acts (Kirk murder, healthcare CEO murder) among a non-insubstantial segment of the Left, as well pro-violence stances articulated by an increasingly prominent leftist influencer being mainstreamed by a large swath of the political Left - After the Kirk assassination, YouGov asked Americans if political violence is ever justified. Huge bipartisan majorities said no. But: “A quarter of respondents who identified as very liberal said violence can sometimes be justified to achieve political goals, along with 17 percent of those who identified as liberal…6 percent of those who said they’re conservative and 3 percent of those who identified as very conservative.” - Missing any? Feel free to add to the list below.

@bumbanisher @cremieuxrecueil It sounds like you're describing something like "listlessness" in very colorful language. It's a common sympton of depression. I'll let you guess why it's common in people prescribed anti-depressants

@cremieuxrecueil I'm not particularly knowledgeable on this topic, that's why I was asking if you have an explanation for why everybody I've met who takes them is just retarded. It's hard to describe, but it's like they just no longer have a soul. The lights are on, but nobody is home

Trump seems to have pretty good instincts for understanding medicines, vaccines, etc. For example, here he's saying he's surprised to hear antidepressants don't work that well. And he's right, because they are extremely effective. Even if you halved their effects they would be.
