Athletes can struggle to balance their sport and academics as both are not easy. This can ruin a promising athlete's career. It takes a special and dedicated person to be able to excel in both sport and academics. @katryaly #ucr50

@HungryHoang Having the experience of playing at a juco for 2 years it's safe to say it's very time consuming and overwhelming. The reward for being an athlete is amazing but I've seen it first hand where athletes overwork themselves to make ends meet. They should definitely be paid more!

I feel like athletes are more prioritized in terms of everything academic wise. Students who join in sports are required to take things seriously rather than students that don’t. I wonder what the universities budget spending looks like for athletes? #UCR50 @TA_ED50

This week's topic, I learned that coaches receive higher salaries than professors. Additionally, a coach's salary is closely tied to the performance of their team members. This raises the question: In the realm of sports, is the primary goal to enjoy the game? @TA_ED50 #UCR50

I believe coaches don’t get paid an unfair amount because of how much revenue is being made within the sport programs. I do believe players should be paid because at the end of the day the revenue comes from the players on the court entertaining the fans! #UCR50 @TA_ED50

Athletic departments are treated as independent entities by colleges and no restrictions on spending are in place. An example is where programs and college sports leadership ends up spending all that is available. #ucr50 @TA_ED50

@gomezzkg @KatryaLy It honestly doesn't suprise me that colleges prioritize sports over acedmics since the sport industry is a multi-billionaire dollar industry. I just found out that Athletic departments spend far more per athlete than institutions spend to educate the average student.

@TA_ED50 #UCR50 Since coaches can get bonus based on winning, it seems like players are their money makers. Do coaches care what players go through? Considering they do all the work of practicing and playing while being students.

Economics can measure the benefits and costs of college athletic programs, but it can't measure the importance of academics and athletics to the institutions. We can't only analyze whether institutions pay too much attention to sports by economics. @TA_ED50 #UCR50

@HungryHoang I had never thought about it in the coaches perspective until this assignment. Always knew students worried about their grades so they could play but the coaches also rely on the top players being able to play in order to win their games. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

There was a lot of myth about women in sports since around the 1920's half of the people in college were women. Because of that there was an idea that playing sports would be "too much" for women bodies. #ucr50 @KatryaLy

1. In chapter 3 of the book, it states that most of all president of college athletics have no personal relationships or interactions with the teams they govern through athletic programs. How is this considered acceptable? #TA_ED50 #UCR50

The fact that Teddy Roosevelt and other faculty members tried to step in and stop the violent incidents, particularly in football, is amazing. It's much safer now compared to 16 fatalities and 149 injuries in 1905 and 3 fatal traumatic injury captures in 2022. @TA_ED50 #UCR50
