I’m determined to increase Polynesian sails and sailors in my local waters. And I’ll build va’a and teach sailing to achieve it because we have the right to see the world from heritage va’a from the moana. It is who we are.

@vodafoneNZ The refusal to recognise the real harm of this name on Māori smacks of your arrogance. But it’s ok because “we support te reo” while we take on a name that is associated to whites supremacist, “But that’s not us”. Te mutunga kē mai o te kuare. 10+ year customer about to walk.

@vodafoneNZ @EnithTea “Embrace te ao Māori “ while continuing to promote a white supremacist ideology, the “defunct” political party, the foundation, the history of white supremacy is real for indigenous peoples, your refusal to hear the real concerns is alarming. kātahi te kuare, ka kuare rawa atu.

Co-governance is a stepping stone and an important and necessary one. Sovereignty is te Tiriti & Te Whakaputanga. Redefining te Tiriti is colonisation.

2/2 yes Māori can do better at acknowledging that hip hop originated, from the core of black lives & experiences. That doco is not the sum total of the work DLT, Te Kupu have done. And yes we Māori can &must acknowledge our racism & ignorance toward black culture. All cultures.

Hip hop is black culture, origins sit in black history and struggle. And many many Māaori and Pasifika have taught us that. That doco didn’t have artists saying it to the extent that a viewer wanted but their actions, their work over generations have. 1/2
