Updates from the field: in the past 8 days, we had rain, we had shine, we had fog, we had wind, but we managed to map ca. 50% (4.5 km2) of the #Siikaneva bog with our multispectral drone. Now on our way home with almost 1 TB of beautiful data waiting to be processed!

Sonst find ich Drohnen ja eher nervig.. 😉 In der Wissenschaft sind sie aber Gold wert. Studierende vom @AWI_de machen hochaufgelöste Aufnahmen in Finnland für die Klassifizierung der Vegetation. Super wichtig, auch um den Einfluss des Klimawandels zu quantifizieren.

Midjourney, DALL-E & SD images are incred, but the real 🤯 is when you realize you can make films with them e.g. @SALT_VERSE, my 100%-AI film experiment it all started with this MJ image, which instantly pulled me into a 70s sci-fi world - wtf is this place?? I had to go in 🫡

The other day I got to be an Arctic boat captain, navigating our expedition team back to town after a long day of #permafrost #fieldwork down the coast. After we ran out of fuel only an hour in, I gladly handed back all responsibility to someone actually in charge, though ;) 🚢

Surveying thaw slumps and gullies with #UAV & #LiDAR backpack and measuring active layer temps & depths has now become second nature to the #PermaX|Scan team. This picturesque gully on the north-east coast of Baldwin Peninsula gets up to 10 m / 33 ft. #permafrost #remotesensing

A year after my first aerial imaging campaign, I am once again lucky enough to fly over these breathtaking Alaskan landscapes. Seeing this untouched nature from above is so humbling. I guess the overview effect can already kick in at lower altitudes ;) 🌎
