Alright. Look. I despise Jared Leto but Tron Ares is honestly a pretty decent Tron movie despite his wooden performance as cyber Pinnochio. It's not better than Legacy by ANY stretch of the human imagination... Nor does it serve as a narrative continuation of the Flynn family story. ...but as a film set in the universe that was influenced by Kevin Flynn and ENCOM's work, it's a decent new chapter. The writing isn't anything to write home about...but it's still a decent time at the theater if you're bored. Personally, I would recommend watching this with a decent sound system because the sound design and music is where it's at. The soundtrack itself is not better than Tron Legacy in my opinion but it's still pretty good. Just not really all that memorable. I dunno. I honestly feel like this would have worked better as a more fleshed out Disney plus series rather than a 2-hour affair.. because they could have done a lot more with the story and their cast. For example, actor Cameron Monaghan is barely in this movie. Bro had zero lines. If the narrative was stretched across multiple episodes, his character would have likely had more influence on the story. I'm glad my boy is getting work but what a waste of a great actor. I would much rather had him as the protagonist than Leto tbh. Also, they don't do anything particularly special or interesting with Jeff Bridges' cameo at all... ...but if they had more narrative wiggle room to work with, I feel like they could have wrote something more substantial for him. Again, I dunno. All in all, the movie is fine. If you like the Tron universe as whole and not just Legacy, then this movie has something for you. If you're looking for a sequel to Tron Legacy, you are straight up shit out of luck. However, and this is a spoiler so please stop reading after this point... ...if Disney green lights a sequel to this movie (which is highly doubtful considering how it's performing), then we will probably get a narrative continuation of Tron Legacy. But considering how trepidatious Disney has been regarding the Tron property over the decades, I honestly would not expect another Tron movie until another 15 years. Anyways, Tron Ares gets a 6.9 out of 10 for me.
