Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to announced that over 250,000 enslaved people were free by executive decree, known as "Juneteenth" by the newly freed people. It is a holiday that recognizes the delay of freedom under the Emancipation Proclamation, as implementation was limited, particularly in Texas. @MEM_PoliceDept Idk whats wrong with the people in the comments, a big part of building community trust is engaging in things like pride. Pride is a net positive and is freedom of expression. If you dislike pride, you should hate all parades, marches, protests, etc. Was a fun event, loved it 🫶🏼
