Kansas Supreme Court appointments have long been decided by a commission of insiders and leaving everyday Kansans out of the process. Governor Kelly's appointment of Larkin Walsh continues this trend, raising questions about accountability and alignment with public values. In August 2026, voters will have a chance to change that. A proposed constitutional amendment would let Kansans elect Supreme Court justices directly, putting the power back where it belongs: with the people.
