I'm reading articles about T-Mobile's shift from customer focus to stock price performance. Employee morale is suffering and, as a customer, I know first hand they're not the same company. Makes me wonder if they'll end up a takeover target by a big market cap entity.

It's a simple thing but it says a lot about who we are as a society. It communicates our values and highlights what we find important. It feels like we're increasingly incapable of putting the good of the collective above one's self - even when the latter comes at greater cost.

News reports suggest Americans are finally resisting inflation. When the "avian flu" raised both egg prices and egg producer profits, consumers complained but kept buying. People really believed they needed eggs. We were unwilling to sacrifice eggs for our own benefit.

My rabbit r1 arrived last week. It's a pointless device. I don't know if there are any use cases where you'd pick it up before your phone. The phone is faster and more capable. That said, I love the possibilities. Feels like the personal AI future from movies is almost upon us.

AI is not some sort of natural phenomenon that will just emerge and become dangerous. *WE* design it and *WE* build it. I can imagine thousands of scenarios where a turbojet goes terribly wrong. Yet we managed to make turbojets insanely reliable before deploying them widely. The question is similar for AI: "do we think there exists at least one design of an AI system that is simultaneously safe/controllable, and can fulfill objectives in more intelligent ways than humans ?" If the answer is yes, we'll be fine. If the answer is no, we won't build it. Right now, we don't even have a hint of a design of a human-level intelligent system. So it's too early to worry about it. And it's way too early to regulate it to prevent "existential risk."

I’m entertained by the stock market. Companies raise prices unnecessarily and the market celebrates record profits. Yay. Higher prices result in inflation staying higher than ideal and the market bemoans inflation. No-yay. It's hard to have one's cake and eat it, too.
