Over 50 years ago, Rabbi Yitz Greenberg posited the following principle: "No statement, theological or otherwise, should be made that would not be credible in the presence of burning children."  In children - our universal symbol of innocence, of possibility, of humanity - there can be no tolerance nor justification of their suffering.  On this day, when the bodies of children are met by some with celebration or silence, we witness the desecration of humanity.  In all that divides us, in all that tears at the threads of connection in our world, if we abandon our ability to grieve children, we have lost our soul.  If we contextualize or feel the need to moralize such obliteration of innocence, I fear any credibility for our future.  There are myriad reasons to weep today.  For life, for death, for the symbolism of humanity lost. It’s on us to stand up, especially as our souls are seared with tragedy.

Last night at @UCBerkeley, Jewish students were threatened, assaulted, and prevented from attending a speech by a Jewish speaker on campus. Campus police shut down this private event when it became clear that they could not protect the students. Multiple students reported being spat on, screamed at, called derogatory names like "dirty Jew" or "you Jew," and physically assaulted by protestors. Jewish students deserve to navigate their lives without fear, and it is crucial that there are significant repercussions for those hindering this goal, including the responsible organizations and individuals. Ultimately, the UC Berkeley administration bears the responsibility of ensuring the safety of Jewish students on campus, a duty that was not fulfilled last night.

Traveled to Israel’s Northern Command today to meet with military leaders and joined @IDF soldiers stationed near Israel’s border with Lebanon. Ever since October 7th, these courageous Israelis, several of whom are also American citizens, left families and home to stand strong for Israel. God Bless Them All. 🇺🇸🇮🇱

Dozens of stickers that say “Zionist is Terrorist” / “Intifada” / “From the river to the sea” stickers that call for israel extinction. They are all around our neighborhood in Jersey City. @JerseyCity leaders must take actions and end the vandalism and the harassment.

In the darkest month of the year, the Israeli American Council’s "Lights of Liberty" event has brought us all together to light up the night sky and tell the world that the hostages kidnapped on October 7 must be brought home. Their safe rescue is the key to true, long-lasting peace.
