Forget “Enter the Sandman” or Timmy Trumpet.
The coolest closer entrance in MLB history is “The Rubberband Man” by The Spinners for #Pittsburgh #Pirates closer Kent Tekulve. 😎

The game is in an awful state.
I scouted professionally for two organizations over a ten-year period, and a lot of what we’re seeing today is being misunderstood or flat-out misrepresented.
First, velocity. Pitchers are not throwing significantly harder across the board. The perceived jump in velocity is primarily the result of technology and measurement changes — specifically where the device picks the baseball up out of the hand. As radar and tracking systems moved closer and closer to release, the readings increased. The arm didn’t change — the measurement did.
Now hitting.
We’ve reached a point where “gurus” who never played the game at a high level are applying golf swing principles to baseball, largely because golf embraced analytics to identify the most efficient swing paths. The problem is that a baseball bat is not a golf club.
In golf, you dump the club to get it on plane.
In baseball, you cannot lose the barrel on the back side and still stay on plane consistently.
Yet the tech community began preaching backside barrel dump as the answer. Front offices filled with non-baseball “propeller head” GMs bought into the presentations, and this philosophy was pushed aggressively through the minor leagues. I saw this coming as early as 2014.
The result?
Hitters now dump the barrel in an attempt to get on plane, but they:
• Struggle to stay inside the baseball
• Lose adjustability
• Operate with slower effective bat speed
On the pitching side, it’s no better.
Pitchers are taught max effort on every pitch. Starters rarely exceed 90 pitches or five innings, work almost exclusively to either arm side or glove side, and live in deep counts. Relievers are almost universally max effort, arm-side only.
The consequence is obvious:
• Poor command
• Inconsistent control
• Little ability to sequence or adjust
Despite all the technology, pitching command and overall feel are as bad as I’ve ever seen at the big-league level.
More data didn’t make the game smarter.
It just made it louder — and in many cases, worse.

Very few players with power that Cope offers from the left-side, and that comes in real two-way tools.
95+ with four pitches ✅
110+ EVs with wood, flashes double-plus raw. ✅
Athleticism in a 6-foot-8, 245-pound frame. ✅

I've seen too many parents force-feeding their hopes, dreams, and desires on their children.
Very rarely does it work out well.
God gives us freedom of choice
My son, Christian, retired from baseball when he was 4.
He chose karate, then tennis, then crew. Sports I knew nothing about.
He stole the two basic things every dad needs: the ability to second-guess the coach and over-coach his own kid.
All I could do was show up, drive, and cheer. And when the game was over, I'd just say "I loved watching you do what you do."
Some parents say, "I'll let him do whatever he wants, and maybe he'll come back to baseball."
Stop. You just ruined it. You're still holding on.
Your job as a parent isn't to mold them into who you want them to be. It's to put them in the best position to be happy and successful at what THEY love to do.
Our children aren't here to live out OUR dreams. They're here to discover their own.

Hurdle-ism 16: I'm Just Trying to Be a Simple Person in a Complex World!
I was drowning in doctor appointments, baseball games, and family challenges. The ups and downs of life.
So I simplified everything to one daily prayer:
"Lord, help me become a simple person in a complex world."
Instead of getting crushed by my long to-do list, I focused on one task at a time.
Eliminate distractions. Keep things simple.
Sometimes surviving means stripping life down to its essentials and taking just one bite of that elephant.

I was a can't-miss prospect that did.
Had scholarships to Harvard, University of Miami for football and baseball, graduated second in my class.
Then life happened.
Divorce, alcohol, traded multiple times, getting fired.
Sometimes the best thing that happens to you looks like the worst thing at the time.
But those failures prepared me for everything that came after.

Unfortunately Rob Manfred and the @MLB owners sold out to the underbelly of society by partnering with gambling entities like @DraftKings & @FanDuel and now MLB players and their families are getting death threats!
I’m guessing that this is much worse than is being reported. The only solution is to end these partnerships immediately. The @MLBPA has to take a stand and demand that all affiliations with gambling partners are severed and a neutral MLB Commissioner will replace Rob Manfred.
There is no game without the players and it’s high time that the MLBPA regains its power and fights for its players and their safety!
I honestly can’t believe it’s gotten to this point!

Between the lodged ball & the outlandish criticism of IKF’s lead at 3rd base I am reminded of just how silly it is to try & explain high level strategy & the purpose behind it to people who are essentially stepping into a PHD level course & telling the professor they’re wrong because “insert opinion with no experience or education to support shitty opinion”. I’ve watched current & retired players try to explain the rules & strategy of the games they play/ed & be told their wrong by “Steve in sales” who pitched & played SS on his men’s league team.
