This is true. My car drove me on a road trip from Wisconsin to California and I built the route primarily just off the stupid easy to use Supercharger Trip Planner in my four wheeled robot. The amenities at Supercharger stops are infinitely better than any gas station I've been to in 90% of the cases. And it shows you what’s where that each charger before hand on screen. I also made a number of stops in places I hadn't initially expected. It's honestly been the best road trip of my life. No stress it just automagically rerouted. Of course I took the wheel on Route 1 in SoCal holy shit that's a drive. But other than that it has just been perfect all the time as if I already know every single city that I've been in. I can focus on being present where I am rather than worrying about how to get there. I fucking love FSD.

One of the most incredible parts of using Tesla Self-Driving is its ability to navigate unfamiliar environments perfectly. It literally takes all your stress away.

@FatalTone Agreed. I am learning not to cling to the experience. Or cling to aversion of clinging to it either 😅

The experience of gnosis feels like a rogue wave of awareness/consciousness. This *vhooom* of familiarity that sensually (having to do with the senses) feels like “Aha! This is it!!” Sometimes subtle, at times overwhelming.

with the law of large numbers and averages I don't think it matters much. I get what you're trying to say and also, one anecdotal piece of evidence isn't representative of data as a whole pretty much ever. the power of FSD is that it is consistently good for millions of miles whereas with humans one small distraction can slightly at least compromise their driving ability if only short for a short period of time Tesla self-driving is either on or off and when it's on it's consistently that good all the time without fail

@tannends @AIDRIVR Do they have any data on how the BEST drivers compare to FSD, or only average drivers? If not, there's not enough evidence to say that it is not possible to exceed FSD's safety as a human driver.

@wholemars maybe I'm out of the loop but I never hear stuff like this. I've given over 400 FSD rides and everyone's either not clued in at all or pretty familiar. I wonder if people are just trolling you

@happysmash27 @AIDRIVR I’m ~600%+ sure FSD is a better driver than you. According to data & assuming you are a human. Thinking about it, this following distance issue has only been a concern probably 0.09% of the driving FSD has done for me over 33k+ miles.

@tannends @AIDRIVR That would make me more amiable to FSD for sure. I don't care too much about keeping a slow speed, but always make sure to have AMPLE following distance. If FSD can't do that combo, I'm not going to be as confident it can drive better than me.

I sold most of what I own and put what was left in my ‘25 Model 3 which planned the entire trip then drove me from Wisconsin to California. I had a two hour video call with my friend going through Nebraska without a sweat of driving myself. The four wheeled robot sedan is even great to live out of for a spell. Tesla’s roadtrip experience is in an entirely different galaxy.

It is still true today that the majority of people outside of these vehicles think everything this woman thought. They think a Tesla is going to be a horrible road trip vehicle. Owners know that the opposite is true. They are the best road trip vehicles ever made.

I know goal is user input as close to zero as possible. In that case, please make FSD more mindful about proper following distance despite higher speed limit in those edges cases

Absolutely agree about following distance. Max speed I’ll be honest I don’t care about as much, they’ve been doing a pretty good job with the speed profiles. But when I am behind a small transport bus around Moss Landing on the 1 going 50 in a 55 in Sloth mode and I’m barely two car lengths behind and can’t control following distance without taking over manually…. That sucks
Talos Dreams@TalosDreams

Two things I, as Supervisor, wish I had more input and control over with FSD: 1. Max Speed - still encounter situations where even Sloth is too fast 2. Following Distances - FSD often follows more closely than I would driving myself. This has resulted in hitting potholes or objects on road that could have been avoided. Regarding your situation and as you found, FSD following distances are sometimes too tight behind tall vehicles to see traffic lights in time to respond normally and without drama. Have experienced same.

How so would you suggest they do it? Making it more à la cart would increase the price. & as they are looking for more adoption, locking it month by month encourages people getting used to it & see it as an essential part of their routine. FSD is an entirely different genre of subscription feature compared to virtually everything else. The closest analogy I can think of is subscribing to essential software for one’s job like a video editor subscribing to Adobe Creative Cloud for teams at $100/mo as well. $3.30/day to virtually never have to drive is arguably an insane bargain. And, yeah it prices certain socioeconomic demographics out currently. It will make more sense for more soon! That’s Tesla’s whole thing since the Roadster

@tannends @wholemars I wish Tesla offers more flexibility with FSD subscription to attract more tesla owners to use FSD.

Right. And you make great content!! I never filmed them but have done about 400 Uber rides with 13.x -> 14.2.x I got the rollout of 14.1.2 I believe (despite not being a big influencer) and the brake stuttering was nooot great for a hot second. My driver rating on Uber took a hit for a sec there but glad to be a part of the journey. Love how you’re sharing more of the everyday side of the story. I loved having FSD conversations with passengers

I was actually one of the first folks to repost this from Jim last night, so I saw some of the initial comments come in from the Tesla community. “This isn’t an FSD video! This isn’t how they’re done! 🤬” Yeah. No sh*t. Welcome to mas adoption.

Found a great video over on TikTok about their experiences with @Tesla and FSD. So great to see the ah ha moment happen! It’s a shame that more people have never had a chance to experience this. Spread the word!
