@ElectionMapsUK @GoodGrowthFdn When there is such a sea change in voting intentions. The polling companies find it very difficult to poll accurately. The actual elections in May will be especially interesting.

Owning a home is FAR more difficult for young men and women today than it was for my generation. That’s just a fact. Average earnings have not kept pace with average house prices - to suggest otherwise is ignorant. The gap has grown at an astronomical rate. The young have every right to feel pissed off, I’m angry for them. And I detest this patronising attitude of people my age that we just happened to manage it all so much better through ‘common sense’ and fewer avocados. There are millions of young Brits who work hard, take care of their money and dedicate themselves - and yes, they are struggling to find a proper home. They have done nothing wrong. In fact, they’ve done everything right but the system still failed them. I am ensuring that there is a political party to finally represent them - Restore Britain is that party. A party that supports the aspirational and committed young British men and women. Scrapping interest on student loans. Stripping back the power of empire-building planning bureaucrats who cruelly prevent sensible house-building in fair locations. Crushing the overbearing regulations that make building anything so very cumbersome. Overhauling leasehold rules which trap owners with mutating service charges. Ending the vindictive war on landlords to make sustainably renting a proper option. Slashing tax to hand back financial control. Entirely abolishing stamp duty for Brits. Because we will not tinker with the status quo, we will not conserve it, we will not reform it. We will fundamentally change how this country operates. The model must break. I will make you one promise. Restore Britain will break it.

@PeterMcCormack @ZoeJardiniere Actually Peter you are not correct. Even if funded from investment income it is the work of the young that is providing for the old. Through tax, through investments, however it is done. The young work because the old can’t. The demographics is the Ponzi scheme!

The honest conversation is that the pay-as-you go pension system + triple lock is a Ponzi scheme. It steals from the present of young people. A public pension system is not economically viable and should be dismantled. People should earn the pension they desire, not steal a retirement from the young.

Until we have an honest conversation about our ageing population, there’s no hope of having a reckoning about how to sustainably support people as they age. Older folks deserve a gold standard retirement. But we’re not being honest about what that costs, & how we can achieve it.

@PeterMcCormack @ZoeJardiniere The uk state pension is not huge, and the pension age has increased. what’s very unfair is index linked final salary pension schemes within the public sector.

What is the real population of China - they always claim it’s 1.4bn. A study from Japan some years ago of Chinese salt purchase/ consumption stated it could not be more than 700m. This lady suggests it only 400-500m. How many people are really on the planet ?

Somewhat counter-intuitively, Edinburgh is farther west than Bristol, and Scotland has the westernmost point in the UK (Ardnamurchan).

@MavroTed @afneil Britain was out producing Germany in aircraft. Britain was loosing fewer pilots - the Battle of Britain was fought over England. Germany was not close. To invade, germany would have had to come to Britain over sea against the Royal Navy and to a hostile people - not a chance.

@afneil If the Nazis had no shifted their attention to Russia, Britain would have run out of aircraft and the air campaign would have been lost. An invasion would have been out of the question given the dominance of the Royal Navy however the country would be under a chokehold…

You have a weak and tendentious grasp of history. We were never a few months away from ‘being a German colony’ after the Battle of Britain (which did not involve America). Churchill made clear his endgame from the start: Total Victory. Germany declared War in USA. That’s what brought USA into the European theatre of war. FDR agreed with Churchill’s endgame.

Removing jury trials wasn’t in the Labour Party manifesto. Therefore under The Salisbury Convention The Lords can refuse to pass it. I got an A in A level British Constitution!

@RealAlbanianPat Labours over performance in Glasgow and Liverpool would not happen like this. These are not pro establishment areas; quite the opposite. They would not win just in these cities in this outcome they would also loose these cities.

@ListerRod @RealAlbanianPat It’s very very tight between a left wing or right wing majority. The right has the advantage of being split two ways (i think Restore is a red herring) where as the left is split between green, orange, red and nationalists.

@2147mill Where do you get the 32% from.? The tax rate with national insurance but without student loans of 9% are. Up to £50,270 28% up to £100k 42% then 62% as your allowance is withdrawn the n 47%

Nobody talks about National Insurance when they tell you to earn more. £50k salary: effective 32% on every pound over £50,270 £100k salary: lose personal allowance, effective 62% from £100k-£125k Dividends in your ISA? 0%.
