@jengerson Not even that. It's election season and they need to make themselves seen and heard, especially in areas where there is potential for a Dem win.

Trying to argue facts on wildfires is an absolute waste of time. They were looking for a reason to retaliate. They found it. They are picking on us because we are the weak. Because relishing in contempt is pleasurable.

I get the impossible logistics but it’s such a shame the Ottawa Senators were never able to play a Heritage Classic here #Sens

@JessMarinDavis If Miller and Rubio are the leads in this, this may not be too big a thing. Come November, Rubio will be starting to plan his POTUS run. If the Dems win the House, I think Miller will leave rather than deal with Congressional investigations.

If/when the US starts pressuring us to designate others groups and movements, the consequences will be more dire for democracy and the rule of law in this country.

@CDNPolicyHawk I always love the argument "we only produce 2% of emissions" as if it means we only get 2% of the impact.

It needs to be possible to acknowledge that Canadian CO2 emissions going to zero tomorrow wouldn't have a meaningful impact on climate change without that being taken to mean that action by Canada is futile, or unnecessary. About 40% of world-wide CO2 emissions come from countries that produce less than Canada. The climate crisis can't be addressed without collective action from that 40%, and most have stronger excuses and less capacity around reducing emissions than Canada. If we're not taking action, why would any of them?

Canadians we don't get to mock this one we literally have a fucking King on our coins
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent@SecScottBessent

As America commemorates 250 years of independence, the @usmint will begin striking this new $1 gold coin to honor the enduring legacy of liberty and a lasting symbol of patriotism. Featuring President Trump, it celebrates the strength of American values, and the promise of a nation dedicated to preserving freedom for all.

@cadwaveanalysis Let's be honest. The CPC was Harper's party. It was an infrastructure built for him and only him. Once he left, they never replaced it. It might be best for this thing to blow up and build something new. Eastern business conservatives never meshed well with the SoCred side.

What I think Conservatives don’t understand is if they remove Poilievre and replace him with a moderate leader, the party will collapse.

@CDNPolicyHawk @Bone348 At some point soon the US budget crunch is going to bite. If the Dems get control of Congress, they'll look to cut back on defense spending. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a swap of the 47 for massive drone buildup.

The F-47? I don't see any reason to think it will be cancelled. Maybe if it turns out it's been 90% a money laundering front with no real progress, or something. But I think there's bipartisan support for the US to develop a successor to in-production aircraft, and F-47 is the only option they've been investing in.

GCAP bros assemble!!! Maybe that's why Colby was going nuts. The RCAF is on course to be flying non-US 6th gen.

@DavidColetto Pretty sure Kelly has spent a lot of column lines explaining why hockey culture is driving people into other sports, like soccer.

I’ve read this again. And then again. And its conclusion is actual worse than I originally thought. It’s so nostalgic to a canada of the 1950s than current Canada. It’s like the author hasn’t looked at demographic data in 30 years. Soccer is the fastest growing sport and I think the World Cup and the @CanadaSoccerEN men’s team outstanding success will drive interest even further.

@CDNPolicyHawk @Bone348 Is there really faith that this project survives past Trump? The F35 went through several rounds of nearly being cut years ago (McCain was a big proponent to cutting it). I think the chances this thing survives the budget is 50/50 at best.

@Bone348 I don't think this is a huge part of Colby's rant... The US hasn't even confirmed that the F-47 will be available for export (which has interesting implications of the US insistence that Canada must operate the same aircraft as them now... but I digress...).

@VanIsleStuartD @ListerRod @davidportier Weren’t Liberals bragging about their Gen-Z MPs? Are they going to tell them to quit after a few years so as not to become “professional politicians”?

@davidportier @VanIsleStuartD Pearson had a pretty decent CV before becoming a MP, including US ambassador. King was a civil servant and later worked for Rockefeller. St. Laurent was one of top lawyers for years before being a MP. Even PET was a professor.

This is obviously aimed at Canada. It probably deserves significant dissection. But the fact that it emphasizes that access to the American Defence Industrial base is a privilege that should not be taken for granted -- then goes on to argue other countries shouldn't invest in their own defence industrial bases in ways that might replace or supplant the US one -- is representative of how muddled the entire message is. America: WARNING, you might lose access to our industry at any time! Also, America: Why are you trying to reduce your reliance on our industry? 🤔

There is a great deal of hubbub about a collective “middle powers”strategy these days. At DoW, we are not concerned that this is a serious possibility. Rather, we are more concerned that a few allies and partners will *think it is* and waste valuable time, money, and political capital on a distraction. 1/

@NoahGairn Didn't they just cancel a frigate class as well as an icebreaker project? And the engine replacement program for the f35 is years behind schedule. Sounds like someone is bothered by recent orders. I wonder if the Ukraine order of Rafales has anything to do with this post.

You should be grateful for being allowed to buy from us but also your DIB should focus on feeding into our system. Even removing all the pissy politics, how is that a convincing pitch? Build capacity but not too much?

@bruceanderson This is like saying the Sec Def or Sec State is the closest to decision making to POTUS. Yes Prime Minister may have been satire, but it's closer to reality than this piece is. And I'm pretty sure Harper was more closer to Brodie and others in his office than Flaherty.
