Advice for an evil AI that wants to wipe out humanity: #1: Make sure the humans don't know that there's a war until after you've won the war.

I think I would say that robography is an art, albeit an art that's dramatically and fundamentally different from, say, painting or photography.

Notice that "robography" is defined as the thing that the human does. The thing that the algorithm does is called generation, not robography. The robographer is the human who set up or commanded the algorithm.

I'd like to propose a piece of terminology. "Robography" is the action of, with artistic intent, setting up and/or commanding an AI algorithm which generates a picture. A "robogram" is the picture so generated.

@thefogmutters Sure do! It's almost like music is emotional tofu—it soaks up whatever emotions I'm feeling at the time.

@Spooktergeist I have SO MANY questions! Is the kid on the left Bonbon? Is Gideon a blood relative but too young to remember the people in the photo? Or is Bonbon telling Gideon about the family she left behind? And most of all, are Bonbon and Gideon going to be okay? Precious babies 🥺

Conversely, I think LeCun makes a great argument here. So far, progress in AI has always been painstaking and expensive. It seems unlikely that we will suddenly flip from "it's very hard to make progress in AI" to "AI is progressing by itself and we can't stop it."
Yann LeCun@ylecun

Capabilities of AI systems do not just "emerge". Lots of people come up with lots of ideas, try many of them, and fine-tune like mad to bring those new capabilities. Then, a considerable amount of effort is devoted to detecting and evaluating capabilities *and* flaws.

I feel like refuting LeCun today. This is a strawman argument. Nobody is "equating intelligence with dominance."
Yann LeCun@ylecun

Once AI systems become more intelligent than humans, humans we will *still* be the "apex species." Equating intelligence with dominance is the main fallacy of the whole debate about AI existential risk. It's just wrong. Even *within* the human species It's wrong: it's *not* the smartest among us who dominate the others. More importantly, it's not the smartest among us who *want* to dominate others and who set the agenda. We are subservient to our drives, built into us by evolution. Because evolution made us a social species with a hierarchical social structure, some of us have a drive to dominate, and others not so much. But that drive has absolutely nothing to do with intelligence: chimpanzees, baboons, and wolves have similar drives. Orangutans do not because they are not a social species. And they are pretty darn smart. AI systems will become more intelligent than humans, but they will still be subservient to us. They same way the members of the staff of politicians or business leaders are often smarter than their leader. But their leader still calls the shot, and most staff members have no desire to take their place. We will design AI to be like the supersmart-but-non-dominating staff member. The "apex species" is not the smartest but the one that sets the overall agenda. That will be us.

@Eldorian Suppose the request is "Who are the people in room 8 right now?" 200 with an empty list = "There aren't any people in room 8 right now" 404 = "Your question doesn't make sense because there is no room 8"

Sometimes a simple REST API change can significantly simplify the UI. Example: An endpoint returns either an array, or null. This requires the UI to handle the potential null. 👎 Solution: If there are no records, return an empty array instead of null from the REST API.

@RichardRRCC Makes sense. I notice that your tweets often don't contain any supporting information, which seems like it would make it hard for someone to know whether what you're saying is true or not.

This case, which criminally targets the sitting president’s leading opponent, is much more dangerous because it sets up the federal government as the arbiter of truth. This indictment essentially charges Trump with not accepting the “truth.”...thehill.com/opinion/crimin…
