@vwyeth I can’t recall the price - it definitely wasn’t that much, but this was like, 2016, so I imagine things might have changed since then!

@vwyeth We have had this happen, but it was several years ago. Lived in DC at the time and there are agencies that will do a very fast (maybe even same-day?) renewal. You have to be able to show existing ticket for immediate travel, though it sounds like you have that.
