CCBs cause preferential arteriolar dilation, increasing cap hydrostatic P hence causing peripheral edema. ACEIs/ARBs cause dilation of post cap venules and when used in combination with CCBs, there is lower risk of edema. Both are 1st line anti hypertensives along with Thiazides
