John Tortorella declined to speak with the media after advancing to the Western Conference finals. The Golden Knights also didn’t open the dressing room after the game. They brought 1 player into a side room to speak, along with the two who spoke at the podium. I’ve been covering the NHL for nine years and never seen either of those happen once.

For the "this is why you don't tank" folks, what exactly is the #Canucks' alternative? Vancouver was 32nd in the NHL by pt% in mid-December *with Quinn Hughes on the roster*. You're either buying o supplement this group, or you're continuing to tear this down. Easy choice.

doesn’t feel like anything will ever change with #NHL playoff format, but both WC2 getting swept certainly strengthens the argument for a play-in. Maybe a different WC2 gives top seed a better run. Maybe?

@thegoldenmuzzy If they were smart they would. His plan from the very beginning was to play with his brothers. He turned down Detroit, apparently Buffalo was interested but they didn’t get a guarantee he would sign so they backed out, he obviously said no to Vancouver. He’s going to NJ in ‘27

Random thought: Does Minnesota have to trade Quinn Hughes this summer if he doesn’t want to re-sign?

The only saving grace was the unprotected 1st rounder they acquired, and they traded it for an aging depth defenceman. The worst trade in the franchises recent history.

The hockey gods have nothing to do with it, though *some* luck is essential for any successful NHL team. With clear eyes, a patient plan, the budgetary power befitting a high revenue team and a willingness to swing the bat, the Habs executed a model rebuild.

@ThomasDrance @lindengoat16 Cause it is luck. The nhl decided a draft lottery was needed to that alone adds luck. Luck is team before you picking the wrong player letting you get a star, for every good rebuild theres bad ones where things just didnt pan out

This move continues to show the narrow view the organization looks at things through. Why you wait until the day after the season makes zero sense, this conclusion should have been reached long ago.

1) This only matters if something happens with the President. 2) Why’d you let this guy fly here, there and everywhere scouting in the second half of the year ahead of the most important draft in franchise history? This move should have been made the day after the Hughes trade.
