I worked in gaming my entire life. Gambling wins were always taxable. Over a certain dollar amount, a W2G form was issued and you definitely owed taxes on that money unless the amount of your loss was more than your win (you would need to itemize deductions). They may also be subject to state income taxes. Do you really think people were allowed to win hundreds of thousands without paying tax??
