@robwalling @leenyburger Wow that’s crazy. I wouldn’t have imagined these prices. Maybe just release the raw version? I‘ve seen @dhh or @jasonfried just jump on video calls and I assume most people would prefer that over audio-only.

@tbuehl @leenyburger The cost to produce a teaser video is $150-$250. Cost to produce a video episode is $x,xxx given the level of editing and production. So at this point it’s not feasible to produce 1-2 episodes a week at that cost. Video is surprisingly expensive when you edit like we do.

Just now -- acclaimed British surgeon testifies to #UK Parliament, detailing how #IDF "quadcopters" would arrive at the scene of airstrikes in #Gaza & "pick-off" / "shoot" the injured, including children.

Today, I met my dad’s friend on the street. I honestly didn’t recognize him; no one looks the same after a year of genocide. I asked him how he had been doing. He said he had four sons, and one after another, they were killed over the span of a year. His last son and wife were killed last month. Now, he sleeps on the streets with no family. A vibrant man who once owned a house, a car, and a business is now deprived of everything, even his family.

@nateberkopec Interesting. The other day I noticed you get way more shared vCPUs and RAM by choosing Intel over AMD. But then I saw a few posts about the Intel ones being way slower

Something I noticed setting up a Hetzner rootserver today: For basically the same price, you get a ~50-75% better processor by choosing Intel vs AMD (at least at the lower end).

@levelsio @xai Classic Google experience. I played around with their ML tools a few years ago. Without a bookmark, it was nearly impossible to find my project in their console again—not to mention all the hurdles I had to jump through just to upload a training set.

It took me literally 30 seconds to sign up to @xAI and get an API key to use it in my app I tried to sign up to Google Gemini (Google's LLM) and it took so long messing around with different portals and consoles and then installing Google libraries I just gave up altogether after 30 minutes
@levelsio@levelsio

THIS is how you launch an LLM API OpenAI and Anthropic-compatible so it takes literally one line to change it to @xAI's API No cumbersome set up ✍️ Take notes, Google

@yongfook Agreed. I run my products on VPSs for ages now, and every now and then, there is something that just eats up time. But I’m also interested in DevOps, so that’s fine with me. It’s definitely not as simple as pushing to Heroku.

Hot take: it’s trending right now but indiehackers launching on a VPS are creating infra overhead for themselves that could be better spent on building product or doing marketing. If you’re a solo founder I still think Heroku is the best fit, and I’ll die on that hill.

@nateberkopec Funnily enough, most of the time actually worse than better, because of all the complexity

Basically all the problems in web dev of the last 10 years boil down to people trying to sell a 10% better UX for 100% more complexity.

@moxie Which brings me back to the original mindfuck. Do I trust Zuckerberg more than the likes of Maher? Yes, I probably do. WhatsApp runs on the Signal protocol as well. What a time to be alive!

Love the idea of a messaging platform not owned by big tech. But given the involvement of Katherine Maher and Renee DiResta in the controlling foundation and the payment system, you'd be wise to remember that the iOS binary runs on trust, not open source. twitter.com/moxie/status/1…
Moxie Marlinspike@moxie

@dhh Unfortunately true that iOS doesn't support reproducible builds, but not true of all platforms: github.com/signalapp/Sign… And Signal is in general looked at very closely by the sec community. I am much more concerned about Signal's unfulfilled potential than anything like this.

This thing Facebook did — running an MITM on Snapchat and other competitors’ TLS connections via their Onavo VPN — is so deeply messed up and evil that it completely changes my perspective on what that company is willing to do to its users.

One of the best ways to level up your Rails app design is to have more controllers and namespaced models so you can stick to REST conventions The missing ingredient is to use a `Scoped` concern to slim down the controllers and centralize logic

The most slept on browser is easily Ungoogled Chromium. It’s a constantly updated package available in a single line install on home-brew with Chromium *minus* the Google garbage. It’s fast, light and easy on battery. It’s just better Chrome. #downloads" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">github.com/ungoogled-soft…
