@temporaryfap After #2, when four of the letters were locked in, couldn't consonants have been tested in groups?
#3 SCAMP - C, M, and P all tested
#4 SINEW - N and W tested
etc.
...
until the right letter was found.

@catholicbob Public funding for the poor, to the extent that it happens, should be handled by states and localities.
The federal government should stay in its Constitutionally prescribed lane. If it had, we might not be $40 trillion in the hole.
English

I’m not arguing against private charity, but if private charity is insufficient, which it is, we still have a duty to the poor. We pay taxes to fund lots of things. I don’t understand why people only object when taxes are used to care for the poor and disabled.
CatholicBob@catholicbob
Something troubling to see is how many Catholics will put adherence to “Free Market Economics” above Christ’s command to care for the poor. Christ doesn’t say “care for the poor, but only through private charity”, He says “care for the poor”.

@BladeoftheS One aspect of tyranny is overtaxation and confiscation of wealth. By that metric, the GOP should be slightly left of center.
Not as far left as the Dems, but the GOP is not committed to liberty and small government.

You have to be stupid or insane to put Nazis and Monarchies on the Left.

@Lecoqsportif17 @MercuriusFilius Did I misunderstand the premise?
I was assuming all the money at risk on one roll.
Example: If $10000 and roll 7 on a d20, I only keep $7000. I just lost $3000 on one roll.
If I am risking all my money but only $10 at a time per roll, that's a different calculation.
English

@tcudoug @MercuriusFilius On the other hand, all your money means that you must launch (all your money)/10 times the dice. Law of large numbers : the probability is favourable to d20.

@AmonGUs_Carter I got the reference.
All I meant was that 60 minutes on the field with 2022 Georgia was plenty, thanks.

@conquertheno If you're not enough without the gold medal, you'll never be enough with it.

@socraticexp The difficulty is that a 14-year-old has no idea whether they will be a doctor, accountant, poet, ambassador, or something else.
Maybe they'll be more than one thing over the course of a career. We teach them a variety of subjects, knowing they'll hate at least one.

Picture a guitar class where half the students actively don't want to be there. They hate guitar. They resent being forced to hold this instrument. They're counting the minutes until they can leave. Would that class work? Obviously not. The resentful students would make it miserable for everyone.
But we think this dynamic works for math? For history? For science? If half the class is angry and resistant and checked out, the learning environment is poisoned for everyone. Forcing people who don't want to be there destroys the experience for people who do.

@bestofStarTrek Overall...good.
Got rid of Hemmer right after his best episode, but Pelia has been a worthy replacement.
Best episode is still the S1 finale, where they basically reran "Balance of Terror" with Pike in the Kirk role from TOS.

@S_U_Network I'd go FALSE because Ruth also won 94 games as a pitcher.
What's most amazing about Ruth is that, nearly a century later, he is STILL the only player to hit 700 American League home runs.

@OleTimeHardball Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd
Wasn't he known as "Canne d'Huile" or similar in Montreal?
