Great story, Chris. This was my first football coaching staff as the new football SID. Quite a bar that they set. They were each great to work with and make it hard to get my Saturday football-watching schedule lined up each week :)

@Greg_Gaston I know apartments were built across the road from Mike Rose, and as I drive out 385 occasionally, I see housing going up in the area but I don’t know how close that is to the Mike Rose footprint. Surely they’ve considered that though since I think they train there

I think they could have figured it out. If they didn’t try then that’s a shame. I haven’t been out there in a while but don’t they have more land in area? Bottom line is worst case scenario is team leaving town and that’s what is happening so I would have looked at all options.

@Greg_Gaston Parking out at Mike rose was always a challenge when there was ANY youth matches going on. And you’d need to lose that and probably some youth fields to truly expand.

@EricOpperman @memphistigerjeb @Greg_Gaston That’s kind of landlocked as well. Golf facility on one side, baseball on one, softball on one end and football and soccer practice fields on other end. I don’t know that what is being planned for Memphis will be enough seats for USL.

@memphistigerjeb @Greg_Gaston I would have been trying to see if the south campus soccer stadium could have been a viable option. Good location and a better place to watch the game than Mike Rose, plus renovations on the way.

Sad. Once it was apparent they weren’t getting any of the state $, couldn’t they have made a deal with County for Mike Rose use? Perhaps they tried, but if not, wouldn’t it make sense? The fans are mostly in the county. Add seats & concessions. Just a thought.
