@TvkeOfff so what does a man do that makes her feel better than the calm she already has ?

I came across this post that said, “Dating is optional. Her bills are paid. Her home is peaceful. Her bed is big. You’re not competing with other men. You’re competing with how comfortable she is by herself.” And I really had to pause, because that’s the part people don’t talk about. When a woman has built a soft, stable life on her own, it’s not about impressing her, it’s about adding to her peace. She’s not lonely, she’s selective. If you step into her world, it has to feel better than the calm she’s already created for herself.

Update: The woman next to me on this 6 hour flight was DEFINITELY sick, sneezing, coughing, etc - I kept my mask on, buried my head in my hoodie, blasted the air between us, and vigorously washed my hands the second we got off the plane… And by the grace of gawd, woke up this morning feeling fine! Say what you want, but if your default position is that it’s some kind of conspiracy to avoid having any barrier between yourself and a sick person just inches away from you, then this just feels like a natural selection type choice. Sorry!
Jules Suzdaltsev@jules_su

being the only person masking on a flight in the middle of the worst flu season we’ve had in years is so confusing I genuinely don’t understand, being sick is SO MUCH WORSE than masking for a few hours it’s not even close, what the fuck is going on anymore

@anactualwalnut I'll add - hire movers to pack you. Some of the best money I've ever spent! Spend the time instead on decluttering and donations.

I’m prefacing this by saying that I comprehend not everyone has the financial means for this, and this applies to those that do. Hire movers. At our big age…. Hire movers. “Having friends means they should help you move and pick you up from the airport” yeah well I don’t want to help you move, and I don’t assume anyone wants to help me move. Doesn’t make me think they don’t care about me, bc I don’t wanna fuckin help you carry everything you own up and down stairs either! And I still love you!! Moving is one of the worst things ever. It’s annoying and tedious and heavy and if you have the means, meaning it’s not gonna impact your finances in a meaningful way, why are you still asking your friends to do the most annoying task ever knowing they will feel obligated and then offering them dominos pizza and some beer as a reward. Hire the fuckin movers. Nobody wants to do this shit

@pratyushbuddiga @CartoonsHateHer One thing I've noticed is friends who have kids decide for me as single/child-free that I don't want to be involved in the normal rhythms of their family life. I'd love to sit on the sidelines of a game or join them on an outing, or whatever. But nobody asks.

In the end I agree with @CartoonsHateHer - everyone says they want village and community, but their actions reveal that they actually don’t. I think she’s spot-on that a big reason is because people would rather spend the time by themselves/nuclear family and travel a lot more than anyone would’ve in the past. And there’s a lot less tolerance for spending time with anyone you don’t absolutely love which makes sense, but you can’t build a real community or neighborhood without that eclectic mix. That’s why even when millennials imagine their ideal neighborhood (look at startups here) they want all their friends to live on the same block versus having people they didn’t choose to be in community with around. However I bet a lot of these efforts will fall flat for the same reasons of low willingness to invest by families and because jobs change, life situations change etc - how’s that curated mix doing when the first divorce happens? Or when the two moms now hate each other?

@pratyushbuddiga The forced "community" aspect is painfully accurate. Slack channels for residents that nobody uses, rooftop events that get 5 attendees. Everyone wants neighbors but nobody wants to neighbor.

@luinalaska Some fucking doc in an urgent care dismissed my mother's obvious stroke and sent her home. I called 911 when she couldn't speak to me coherently. Luckily she's recovered.

Never (and I mean never) go to a hospital without someone with you to loudly advocate on your behalf. This tweet brought to you by the code stroke just initiated at the hospital 6 hours after the patient was found down. I said this looked like a stroke to me at 8:25 am this morning. A zoom doctor assessing him via a Tele-camera bullshit situation disagreed with me despite worsening confusion, 15 hours+ on the ground, BP 190/90 on arrival, and no movement to left lower leg and minimal to right. The zoom doctor being the deciding factor put him in a wheelchair in the waiting room for 4.5 hours. I am yelling. He’s had no water. No radiology. He is not septic. His BP and presentation screams stroke. They then check his BP in the waiting room it’s 170/102. I am losing my shit at this point. They finally give him a room. A doctor looks at him. SIX HOURS LATER they call a code stroke. Stat CT just confirmed a stroke five minutes ago. Get your risk management department on the phone now Novant Health I am literally certified to play the game *find the defendant* in a medical chart. I SAID THIS SIX HOURS AGO. He presented as a classic stroke in your ER. He was rolled into the waiting room for an entire day with classic signs of a stroke. Which I have been screaming all day. I am beyond angry. Angry doesn’t cut it. Hospitals are full of wonderful people making hard choices. You cannot let someone sit without an advocate saying I AM NOT LETTING YOU IGNORE THIS. Never let someone go alone. If you’re the advocate be the bitch if you must. Say the thing.

updating in case anyone runs into this issue: every single inch of this house was scrubbed in a TSP and Odoban mixture - floors, baseboards, walls, crown moulding, ceiling, doors, frames, windows, cabinets, drawers, shelves. company came out and cleaned the air ducts and HVAC unit and replaced all air vents. rented a heavy duty air scrubber with active charcoal that’s been running 24 hours a day for a week. MERV 13 air filter replaced twice a week the first week, then once a week for a month. and the house opened and aired out for days. the smell is COMPLETELY gone and my home smells fresh and clean. i could cry. next up is replacing all outlets, light switches, face plates, and hardware that have yellow staining. it’s been a process, but it does work 🥹
Brittney@Brittbabi

anyone know how to remove the smell of cigarette smoke out of a house? 🤢 and im not talking about air fresheners. I want the air clean, not masked 😭

Waymo is so safe that if every car was driven like a Waymo, about 9% of America's life expectancy gap would disappear. 9 percent Americans die in car accidents *that often*.
Crémieux tweet media
Crémieux@cremieuxrecueil

About 10% of America's life expectancy shortfall is due to motor vehicle accidents—fixed by Waymo and Tesla. About 18% is overdoses—that's fading now. And the lion's share of the rest is obesity-related. America will soon be buying its way out of its poor life expectancy issue.

@51stnews I'd love to understand who actually is in control of our money. Can we just ignore Congress, spend it as planned, and make them litigate? Or is there a transfer from Treasury that happens?

Haha! It was the first job that so many of us olds had in politics and journalism. That and photocopying the Hotline that came on fax paper. Now that would blow Kate’s mind even more.
Dana Perino@DanaPerino

Just explained to my assistant, Kate, why I call the morning news packet "the clips" and she can't believe it. "how long did that take?!" We actually, clipped the hard copy newspaper, made a photo copy, then put together the packets for everyone in the office. It's true!
