Dagger Flies (Empididae) a fascinating group of flies with 103 species occurring in Ireland. I have now digitised the historic and more recent records which are now available online here:

I look forward to expanding this dataset over the coming years.
Thrilled to announce that Team Diptera is collaborating with an awesome Phoenix tattoo shop, Coven Tattoo, to offer a ton of entomology flash designs during ESA!
What's "flash"? Pre-made designs available to anyone who signs up!
Please take a look here: tinyurl.com/insect-coven
A little OTT today post wise, but it's been a good while since weemad went mad 🤣
Another single shot from Malaysia of a small robberfly, it was perched perfect but flew off after this image grrrr
The flash designs include lots of arthropods, not just flies, as an olive branch to the other orders 🤭
Coven Tattoo is on Instagram as @/coven.phx with an incredible array of art. Just message them to book!
We hope you spread the word and enjoy your visit! See you at ESA! 🪰🦟
The different forms of the hoverfly Volucella bombylans can and do interbreed, and the offspring presumably segregate in a Mendelian fashion. However, there are three varieties so it must get complicated. It would make a fascinating study. I used this photo on the cover my book 'Courtship and mate-finding in insects', although these two flies have clearly found each other already!🤣
