can’t get over this shot

FIRST LOOK: Val Kilmer has been resurrected via AI to star in the new movie "As Deep as the Grave." Kilmer was cast in the movie in 2020, five years before his death. But he was too sick amid his throat cancer battle to ever make it to set. Now an AI version of the actor is appearing in the film, with the full blessing of his daughter, Mercedes: "He always looked at emerging technologies with optimism as a tool to expand the possibilities of storytelling. This spirit is something that we are all honoring within this specific film, of which he was an integral part.” “He was the actor I wanted to play this role,” says writer-director Coerte Voorhees. “It was very much designed around him. It drew on his Native American heritage and his ties to and love of the Southwest... His family kept saying how important they thought the movie was and that Val really wanted to be a part of this. He really thought it was important story that he wanted his name on. It was that support that gave me the confidence to say, okay let’s do this. Despite the fact some people might call it controversial, this is what Val wanted.” wp.me/pc8uak-1lH1PI

James Gunn Supergirl is releasing in 99 days. Are you planning on seeing it?

How I know "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" will be a gigantic piece of shit: Trailer begins with him alone on a girder looking at his friends on his phone: BORING. Then, voiceover tells someone that they won't remember him because of what happened at the end of the last movie: SUPERHERO ERASURE. Then, random DARKY LIT shots of people: DEPRESSING. Then, Spider-Man swings into action - and hits a car and lands in the street: FAILURE Spider-Man gets hit by a van driven by The Punisher: MORE FAILURE. They banter, they battle: HEROES FIGHTING HEROES AGAIN. Shots of random people at a party while Ned voiceovers, "sometimes Spider-Man has to do the hard thing even if it breaks Peter Parker's heart": MORE FEELINGS CRAP! Peter fainting saying "what is happening to me": WEAKNESS. Peter somehow trapped in his own web, then falling out of it: WEAK, HELPLESS, NOT IN CONTROL. Peter in a glass box being scanned: LOSS OF FREEDOM. Peter going to ULTRA TDS SUFFERER MARK RUFFALO/BRUCE BANNER for help: SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. A drop of water falling into a barrel: NO IDEA WHY. Peter holding his head like he's in pain: MORE WEAKNESS. Peter being thrown by his web into a water tower: MORE FAILURE. Peter visiting May's grave: MORE FEELINGS CRAP! Peter tied to a chair, wrists restrained: MORE FAILURE and LOSS OF FREEDOM IMAGERY. Peter getting knocked around by Scorpion: MORE FAILURE. Peter facing MJ on a very dark rooftop: WHO CARES? Peter trying to stop a tank but gets thrown into a bus window instead: MORE FAILURE. And a slo-mo scene of Spider-Man about to battle a bunch of red ninjas... ...BUT NOT ONE KICKASS "GO HERO" MOMENT IN THE WHOLE 2:40 TRAILER! Look, I've gotten pretty good at dissecting these deconstructionist hero movies. This is basically Spider-Man written by people who think superheroes are STUPID. Mournful, darkly lit, unhopeful, NEVER see the hero in TRIUMPH or being HAPPY. I get the same feeling from this trailer as I did from "James Gunn's Superman," "Lanterns," and the last 10 MCU movies: NOTHING I WOULD EVER PAY TO SEE. We all knew this was coming. Hollywood wants to make the superhero genre disappear. This is just the latest ruination.
