Listened to the fight driving home from sky last night. From the shock in @bigdaddybunce and company’s voices, two things seem to be evident: @RicoVerhoeven deserves huge credit for his boxing but maybe Usyk has peaked. And then you ask, why carry on? Or just too heavy?

Former Forest Green captain Darren Jones has been announced as the new @LydneyTownAFC manager. Jonah also had spells at Bristol City and Cheltenham Town.

Welcome to Lydney Town, Darren Jones. We are pleased to announce that former Forest Green Rovers, Newport County and Hereford United stalwart Darren Jones will take the helm for the 2026/27 season. With over 400 professional league games, Darren brings excellent pedigree, as well as managerial spells at Chepstow Town, Cwmbran Town and Westfields. Upon the appointment, chairman Neil Hook commented ‘we are delighted that Darren has accepted our offer to the lead the team into the new season. We had a terrific response with some really good candidates. Darren stood out to us as someone with a good knowledge of football, a great temperament and a real ambition to push us back up the leagues. His experience will be invaluable to our young squad as we head into a new league.’

The Boxingscene writers that got let go were a great group of writers. I enjoyed their work. I will subscribe to substacks and be more willing to pay than in the past. I hate paying for things but I want to read good writing about a sport I love (not press release merchants).

What’s interesting about the Ivan Toney World Cup section is the implicit message that Thomas Tuchel clearly rates The Saudi Pro League. Otherwise Toney’s numbers are irrelevant.

@littlejason Yes. But I previously would have thought of that league comparable to bottom end of Championship. Clearly he feels differently, which is interesting/slightly odd.
