@Emi_Kitten @daveweigel I just said the same in a quote tweet and remembered that Neil Young is Canadian, which I suppose is why Joni Mitchell didn't make the list as well. But Taylor and Waits in particular seem indefensible

Very good argument prompt/list from NYT, because those lists need to start fights. Identifying a modern "American songbook" but leaving out un-hip megahit artists like Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ashley Gorley... I respect the game nytimes.com/interactive/20…

this film being a hit feels like one of the more morally repugnant cultural moments of my lifetime

#Michael is aiming to set the record for biggest music biopic opening weekend with a $70 million-plus debut. Some exhibitors are predicting the final number will be closer to $80 million, far above 2018’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” ($51 million) and 2015’s “Straight Outta Compton” ($60 million, the current record holder). “Michael” is expected to be even bigger internationally. It’s projected to earn $75 million to $80 million from 82 markets. Globally, the film should end up with a stellar $140 million to $150 million (or more) by Sunday. variety.com/2026/film/box-…

@conor64 @JuanitaQPublic @daniel_dsj2110 It seems a salient critique either way, so what does it matter? If and when your counterfactual comes up, we can hit the author with the hypocrisy. Unless you know something about them that I don’t, in which case you should just say that.

I would say I’m fairly knowledgeable about the corruption, violence, coercive authority, and brutal imperial power that pervades extractive sectors and yet I am still in shock at this Trump admin move to secure Zambian minerals

@mattyglesias He’s lying about the possibility his company goes bankrupt before anything he could feasibly call “superintelligence” exists.

Study shows COVID vaccines decreased heart attacks and strokes. A sweeping analysis of nearly 46 million adult health records has delivered a clear verdict: COVID-19 vaccination sharply lowers the risk of heart attacks and strokes, directly refuting persistent claims to the contrary. Published in Nature Communications, the study followed people across England from December 2020 through January 2022. It documented a 10% drop in serious arterial blood clots (including heart attacks and strokes) after the first dose alone. Protection strengthened further with subsequent doses: a 20% reduction among those fully vaccinated with Pfizer/BioNTech and a striking 27% reduction for AstraZeneca recipients. The researchers were upfront about rare side effects—myocarditis and certain clotting disorders—that can occur shortly after vaccination, but stressed these remain exceptionally uncommon. By comparison, catching COVID-19 itself dramatically raised the odds of major cardiovascular events. Lead co-author Dr. Samantha Ip described the results as some of the strongest evidence yet that the vaccines do more than prevent severe infection: they also confer lasting protection against two of the world’s leading killers. [Ip, S., North, TL., Torabi, F. et al. Cohort study of cardiovascular safety of different COVID-19 vaccination doses among 46 million adults in England. New: Trump pardoned nursing home owner Joseph Schwartz just 3 months into his sentence for a $39 million fraud scheme. Meanwhile, families who won multimillion-dollar wrongful death suits against Schwartz haven’t collected a cent. propub.li/4di7xXs

I’m sure glad JJ Abrams, Bob Iger, Alan Bergman and co really stuck by her after that backlash and didn’t do something despicable like reduce her role in the next movie to a glorified cameo

EXC: .@GoodwinMJ’s new book “Suicide of a Nation: Immigration, Islam, Identity” is out now, and I’m only 5 chapters in and have found a huge amount of what appears to be false quotes and basic misinterpretations of data, that appear to be AI hallucinations. Matthew, can you explain the claims you made in the book that I’ve outlined in the below thread?
