Joe "Iron Man" McGinnity was born in Cornwall Township, Illinois, on this day in 1871. His father Peter, who was originally from Dublin, was a coal miner. ☘⚾ McGinnity made his major league debut in 1899 and immediately made an impact, leading the National League with 28 wins in his rookie season. In one of the most incredible feats in baseball history, he started and completed both ends of a doubleheader three times in August of 1903, earning six wins in just one month. His best season came in 1904, when he led the league in wins (35), games pitched (51), shutouts (9), saves (5), and ERA (1.61). Over the course of his career, he led the league in innings pitched four times and wins five times, finishing with a lifetime ERA of 2.66. McGinnity retired from the major leagues in 1908 with 246 wins, 3,441 innings pitched, and an astonishing 314 complete games — all accomplished in just ten seasons. But his love for the game didn’t end there; he continued playing, managing, and owning teams in the minor leagues, even pitching his final professional game in 1925 at the age of 54. In total, he racked up over 500 victories between the majors and minors and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946. #Irish #Ireland #Dublin #Baseball #IrishBaseball #HOF #MLB

My dad, Ron, who just turned 88, is a NY Giants fan. He always followed the rest of the league and was a big fan of Dick Vermeil. When Trent Green got hurt, and he learned of your background in the Arena League, he told me, "You watch, this guy is used to getting hammered in the Arena League, and he will be a good NFL QB." I listened, and we both were blown away by how quickly you became one of the best QBs in the league. Just wanted you to know that my dad is one of those people who believed in you from the very start!

More to my point about PRODUCTION vs POTENTIAL: I sat on BENCH at a SMALL school for 4 yrs —> played 1 yr and was Player of Year in Conf Got cut by GB after getting 0 snaps in game —> worked in a grocery store —> signed in Arena Football League Played 3 yrs in AFL, top QB in league & played in Arena Bowl 2x… Went to NFLEurope was top QB statically that season… Signed with Rams & sat bench all year in 98… When slated to be starter after Trent got hurt the whole world said the Rams are finished, no way this small school, stock boy, arena football, backup QB can play… bc they failed to see the production EVERY time I played! They were looking at all the wrong things, when I had played, I played well and that carried over to NFL as you would expect… follow the production 1st!

The first Chuck Norris movie I ever saw in the theater was Good Guys Wear Black. I went to the Seaview movie theater in Canarsie (Brooklyn). Became a huge Chuck Norris fan after that and saw every movie, TV show, etc. I never thought anything could beat him. Sad day. Rest in peace, John T. Booker.

At the #Mets Christmas party in Dec. 1995, reliever John Franco was asked about the upcoming 1996 season. “People in general are pretty excited about the Mets,” the pitcher told the New York Times’ Claire Smith. “A lot of people I’ve talked to were Yankees fans turned off by what the Yankees are doing, saying, ‘We’re with you guys now.’ “ Well, things turned out differently, as the 1996 season was one of the weirdest seasons I've ever experienced: gothambaseball.com/2026/03/a-look…

@johnbarry06 Baty will likely play 1B, DH, and get the occasional RF or LF game. They are very happy with Baty's progress and versatility. They have not yet given up on Vientos, and I expect they will give him 100 ABs before they make any final decision on him.

@MarkCHealey With Bichette at third, where will Baty and Vientos play. It is apparent to me that Stearns has closed the book on both.

I’m not ready to give up on Mark Vientos just yet. Easy to pick on a guy when he’s struggling, but I think the Mets are better served by keeping him around for the start of the season.

@gase_burner He’s not an albatross; if they had signed him to a pre-arbitration extension, then he’d be an albatross. Right now, he’s in baseball purgatory. He has enough potential so DFAing him is a risk too little value to trade.

@Jim_Shewss I’m not willing to DFA him for nothing. If he finds his stroke, they will need his RH bat.

@MarkCHealey He can’t hit a breaking ball, can’t field and slow as shit. Once the book came out on him, he was unable or unwilling to adjust.

@jericson1963 They are not going to keep him just to keep him. I’d say he’ll get a shot for 100 ABs
