By the time Mamdani took office, murders and shootings were already at or near multi-decade lows following sustained decline under Eric Adams from 2022 through 2025. The early 2026 numbers are simply a continuation of a trajectory that was already well underway. When Republicans credited Trump with a strong economy, Democrats always responded, “He inherited it from Obama” or “He inherited it from Biden.” Apply your own standard here. Show me the Mamdani specific policy that caused this decline, and explain how it produced results almost immediately, or stop saying he deserves credit for a trend he inherited.
